The Panthers opened their June mini-camp workout on Wednesday with a new offensive coordinator and everyone ready to get to work. Jeff Davidson was active on the field and closely watching every play. Wide receiver Drew Carter was especially happy to be on the field and working in this offense. “We just finished a hard offseason conditioning program and I love this. I love practicing. This is what you work hard for, train for, and this is the fun part.”

When asked what was different about this offense Carter added, “We have a lot of different formations and things but it is mostly the same language from last year. Obviously he’s bringing his own style into it and it’s a good adjustment.”

The storyline of Kris Jenkins not reporting has started to wear out a bit and none of the players appear to be bothered by it. Fellow lineman Damione Lewis said, “I really can’t comment. Like I said this is business and I really don’t know anything about the situation and I’ll just leave it at that.” Expect this story to continue to be played out until Kris shows back up at practice.

The rest of the defense appeared glad to be back out on the field as well. Na’il Diggs is starting his second year with the team and last year had to deal with offseason injuries. This year he is feeling much better.

“I feel even better this mini-camp. Last year, I was coming off a couple of injures from the prior season. I felt good but I wasn’t able to train like I wanted to in the offseason. Now I’m coming off a healthy season, feeling great, and was able to work how I wanted to work with no limitations. Here I am now feeling good and the sky is the limit.”

Notes:

Travelle Wharton, Mike Rucker, and Jordan Carstens worked out on the sidelines trying to overcome injuries from last season. Fourth round pick Ryne Robinson, DeAngelo Williams, and Taye Biddle all got work receiving kickoffs on Thursday. TE Michael Gaines has made great catches each day. Rashad Butler has been working with the first and second team as left tackle.
