Kris Jenkins to Jets for 3rd and 5th rounder

February 29, 2008

ESPN is reporting the Carolina Panthers are trading Kris Jenkins to the NY Jets for a 3rd and 5th round draft pick.

This is a solid move by the organization, despite what fans have been saying. Added picks in this years draft is a much needed first step towards rebuilding this team for the future. The superbowl window officially closed last season. The goal now is to pry another window open as quickly as possible. These draft picks are more helpful than an oft injured over rated offsides jumping mound of contempt towards the fans of Carolina.

Piece of advice to Kris, you may want to be a little nicer to New Yorkers.

Jenkins for Vilma Trade?

February 28, 2008

John Watson

According to NJ.com it’s a possibility as the Jets are looking for a DT:

“The Jets may be on the verge of filling the gigantic hole in the middle of their 3-4 defense with a Pro Bowler.
Although free agency starts tomorrow, the Jets have been in trade talks with the Carolina Panthers and Detroit Lions the past several days regarding Pro Bowl defensive tackles Kris Jenkins and Shaun Rogers, respectively, according to two people familiar with the Jets’ intentions

The two people requested anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the negotiations.
The Panthers and Lions are believed to be interested in Jets middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma…”

I would imagine, if this were to happen, they would look at moving Vilma to the Will spot now occupied by Diggs. While we just resigned him we didn’t exactly break the bank of him and could keep him around for depth. There’s a lot of speculation surrounding Vilma’s knee, some feel it was just a ploy to get him off the field because he wasn’t happy and they wanted to try other options….Jeremy Bridges absessed tooth at the end of this season comes to mine.

Adios Senor Carr….

Adiós Sr. Carr , Usted es la decepción más grande de la historia de las panteras!!!

Rashad Butler – What happened?

February 24, 2008

With all this talk over drafting a LT, I was wondering why no one was talking about Rashad Butler.

Butler was a solid player when drafted in the third round of the 2006 draft. He was a bit on the smaller side, but the scouting staff felt they could bulk him up and he would be the eventual starter. However, he actually lost weight and while he stayed extremely athletic and physically gifted, he did not have the size to fend off NFL caliber defensive ends.

The Panthers then cut him after the 2007 training camp.

The Houston Texans picked Butler up. Soon after the signing, Butler was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, a rare disease that causes open sores in the colon. Soon after treatment, Butler was able to easily gain weight and currently is listed near 300 pounds.

Question: How was this medical condition missed by the Panthers training staff, resulting in the loss of a third round pick that is the most needed position today?

Deshaun Foster Released…. Finally

After years of being overrated, Deshaun Foster has finally been released.

Talk about it here...

Travelle Wharton Signs 6 Year Deal

February 14, 2008

The Carolina Panthers signed OT Travelle Wharton to a six year deal today that locks up their starting LT.  Wharton was a 3rd round pick from the University of South Carolina and had just finished his original four year rookie deal and would have been a free agent Feb. 29th.  Wharton had a good season coming back from a torn ACL and is viewed by the team as an important part of the offensive line.

Wharton performed well in his first season back from a serious injury and has the right balance that the team likes of youth and experience.  This move allows the team to leave Jordan Gross at RT if he is resigned.

Wharton has often said he enjoys playing for the Panthers and being close to his hometown in Simpsonville, SC.  He has done everything asked of him by the team and exudes positivity to everyone around him.  During his recovery from his surgery he often worked out with Mike Rucker who was coming off a similar injury.

This signing now locks up a player who is positive, wants to be on the team, works well with others, and does everything asked of him by the team.  Wharton has the exact type of attitude that the team wants to have around as building blocks and leaders of the franchise.

Dan Morgan and Mike Wahle Released…

February 11, 2008

It appears the Panthers are finally taking a serious look at their veterans and are ready to make much needed moves this offseason.

The oft injured Dan Morgan, and oft beaten Mike Wahle were both released today, making room for more reliable players.

Look for Jon Beason to get the star ting nod, of course, at the middle line backer position. Also look for him to make the pro bowl next season.

Things are looking up Panthers fans. Let the anticipation begin!
