Game Grades - Lions at Panthers

November 17th, 2008

If the Panthers can ever fire on all cylinders, they will be a real superbowl contender. Until then, they look like a team still in development. The good news is for Panthers fans, that John Fox knows how to win playoff games.

On with the grades:

Offense:

It is hard to complain about an offense that features two backs that rush for over 100 yards a piece. Its hard to complain about an offense that shows a beautiful seam route to a TE for a TD. A good many Panthers fans are up in arms this morning. I have heard the Panthers are the worst 8-2 team in NFL history. I say those fans hardly know their NFL history. Not every team can win ugly, not every team wins at all. My suggestions for Panthers fans?  Realize you have a very good football team cheer for, it will make your holiday season much happier.

Offensive Grade - B

Defense:

Julius Peppers again shows why he never deserved much of the criticism piled on by fans and media alike. Peppers is a flat out game changer. Charles Godfray also continues to show how he was the steal of the draft, as I have been preaching all season.  Kevin Smith ran for 4.7 yards per carry. This is a bit of a concern looking ahead at a possible NYG playoff game.

Defensive Grade: A-

Special Teams:

No blocked punts. No missed kicks. Nice kickoff touchbacks.

All good.

Special Teams Grade: A

You said it,an ugly win is better, much better, than a hard fought, well executed, team played..loss.Panther fans enjoyed both RB’s going over 100yrds each ,defensive plays that contained the Lions and we should just take a deep breath and remind ourselves that we are 8-2 going into 6 tough games where we will need Jake’s arm and gunslinging attitude to thrive & survive. Our 3 bye weeks are over and we fared pretty well. Our season really begins this Sunday against the hungry Falcons and we need our team to contain their offense and continue the momentum with the run offense…and please include our TE/RB’s in the passing game especially if Steve Smith is doubled.
    Let’s Go Panthers !

While I’ll agree about the be happy with the wins montra, mostly because I’ve been telling myself that all year, the total non-exsistance of a passing offense the past two games scares me. Hopefully the wrinkles get ironed out before the 4:15 this sunday, but I have a feeling the might not. If Atlanta stacks the box (which any good coach with a brain would) we could be in trouble. But glad to be a panther fan!

Ya’ll don’t be so NEGATIVE and have faith in our coaching and players! Remember the comments in ‘03 (Panthers will never beat the Cowboys, Rams, and Eagles on the road). If the team would have listened to the media and the arm chair QBs we would have been the same 1-15 Seifert team of ‘01. We have a GREAT team that CAN beat the Giants in the Meadowlands. Grit, heart, talent, and chemistry goes a long way! KEEP THE FAITH AND SUPPORT THESE CATS!!! GO PANTHERS!!!
