Tony Romo – A Media Fabricated Superstar

December 8, 2008

Yesterday’s Dallas Cowboys – Pittsburgh Steelers game once again confirmed what many of us know to be true.

There is nothing special about Tony Romo.

Despite what the national media says. Despite how much they shower him with praises. Despite how much they need him to boost their national ratings. The truth is, he is an average quarterback, and he always will be.

The mark of a true superstar is the last minute come from behind win. The cool under pressure calmness that carefully steers his team to victory. Yesterday’s interception wasn’t the only Tony Romo choke, but latest in a hit series.

Most QB’s in the NFL are average. There are very few Montanas, Elways, Mannings. Still, even without an elite QB, many teams have found a way to win in the playoffs without one. Take Carolina for instance. Jake Delhomme is an average NFL QB. The one major difference between Romo and Delhomme is this, Delhomme only gets better while under pressure. Few QB’s are more clutch with the game on the line. The Panthers have won many playoff games with Delhomme at the helm. The Cowboys have not won a playoff game in over a decade.

What does that say about Romo?
