Game Grades – Bucs at Panthers

December 9, 2008

Welcome to the Deangelo Show.

Offense:

It is hard to do anything but praise an offense that has two runningbacks run for over 100 yards against one of the better defenses in the league. It is crystal clear now, Deangelo Williams is coming into his own, and is a top 5 back in the league. Throw in the fact that Jake Delhomme had a decent game as well as Steve Smith, and you have an offense that can compete with any team, anywhere. If the Panthers can finish the season with that kind of execution, they will have earned a week off in January.

Offensive Grade: A

Defense:

The Panthers Defense last night was what every fan hoped it could be all season long. Intense, unforgiving, and consistent. Jeff Garcia felt pressure most of the night, and was sacked five times. Never able to get comfortable outside of the pocket, Garcia never found his grove. Clearly the Panthers have figured out a way to finally beat this guy. The corner blitz by Richard Marshall resulting in a sack may have been the best blitz of the Panthers season.

Defensive Grade: A

Special Teams:

Special Teams came through in a big way in the third quarter, blocking a point after touchdown and taking the wind completely out of the Tampa Bay sails. They seemed to be gaining some momentum up until that point.
