Well Wishes for the Big Cat

December 10, 2008

It is being reported that Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson is now on the list for a heart transplant.

We at Carolina Huddle want the entire Richardson Family and Carolina Panthers organization to know he is in our thoughts and prayers.

Keep Pounding, Big Cat.

Deangelo Williams – An Elite Back

December 10, 2008

When Deangelo Williams was drafted, something interesting happened here on the Huddle. We noticed dozens of die hard Memphis Tigers alumni and fans sign up out of loyalty to him. We did not recognize it then, but we now know the talent and charisma Deangelo Williams has.

It took some time, however. Partly due to nagging injury. Partly due to the coaching staff’s resistence to change, going with Deshaun Foster when it was obvious Foster was the lesser running back. But finally we are all beginning to see the real Deangelo Williams.

Its hard to avoid comparisons in the NFL. Not many players come in and do something completely new, and in the process, redefine the position. If a comparison must be made, Deangelo Williams would most accurately be a mix of Brian Westbrook with a little Maurice Jones Drew. Deangelo is not only able to avoid contact, but also administer a punishing stiff arm if unavoidable.

Deangelo Williams has already broken the Stephen Davis franchise touchdown record for a single season. The previous record was set in 2003, when the Panthers played in the Superbowl. This above all others is reason to believe the Panthers can get there again this season.
