Random Panthers - Cardinals Thoughts

January 6th, 2009

Ken Lucas has an amazing opportunity to redeem himself this weekend against some of the league’s best. As of late, Ken has caught plenty of flack from fans for his less than stellar play. This weekend, that could all dissappear with a solid performance.

Cardinal Fans appear to be some of the most polite and courteous in the league, a nice change from what we were expecting from Atlanta Falcons fans.

I will be paying close attention to the Wedesday injury report. Jeff Otah missed the previous Panthers-Cardinals matchup, and could possibly miss the game Saturday with an injured toe. The Panthers run game is more dominant with Jeff in the lineup.

The more I look back on the season, the more I realize that Pro Bowl Linebacker Jon Beason has added more than just ability to the team. He has brought a tremendous amount of leadership to the defense, something that was lacking last season. This will be Jon Beason’s first NFL playoff game, and I expect he will make it a memorable one.

Lucas has not played well for the entire second half of the season. What is going to make him suddenly improve this weekend? The entire defense has been absent for weeks. Just look at the point totals.

This Panther Team needs to show up BIG against the Red Bird. Offence, Defense&Special Teams must and will step it up on Sat.PM.We need to bring the heat to Kurt Warner from all sides and Our DB’s&LB’s have got to shut down the passing game. They revitalized Edgerrin James against ATL to find some balance and their OLine gave KW plenty of time to find their Receivers.A hungry Pep&the D gang will be required to shut down their high flying passing game.Lucas,Marshall,Harris,Godfrey…we need you to go from start to finish.Jake, led your team on…GOPanthers!

Ken Lucas is has been pretty consistant since he came to Carolina. He’s having a rough few weeks, but let’s hope he gets back in the zone for the playoffs. He has the skill. No doubt about that. He just needs to get past whatever has been throwing him off his game. Rather than throwing him under the bus (I hate that cliche, forgive me for using it) we should send our positive energy his way and hope it helps him get his groove back. (Another cliche! lol)

I don’t know any Cards fans personally, but from what I’ve read online they do seem like a respectable fanbase. I remember the way Philly fans talked when we met them in the playoffs. I’ve hated the Eagles ever since. And I kinda like their players… I just hate their fans. I think mutual respect is the foundation of fanhood. If the other team sucks, what does that say about your team when they lose? As a life-long UNC fan, I have had to deal with Duke fans my entire life. When Duke wins, which happens half the time, what does that say about my Tar Heels? Nothing! It’s a great rivalry. Both teams are good. As are both teams playing for a spot in the Superbowl. I just hope it’s our’s this year!

Otah’s injury cost us, no doubt. But the real drop-off came whem Damione Lewis left the game. The Giants ate up our D-line without him. Sure, it may have been the absense of both Kemo AND Lewis, but the numbers went out of whack after Lewis went down. I think with both of them back in the huddle, we’ll have a run-stopping D again - like we had in the first half of the season. I hope.

As for Jon Beason, I don’t think there was any doubt about his leadership this season. He embraced the role last year and did an incredible job. Expect him to become one of the great linebackers in the league in years to come.

    Just my 2c

Jake Delhome sucks, I currently live in California, I lived in Charlotte for 10 years I witness the stadium being built in downtown Charlotte and was so happy when we got a team. This always happen I don’t know why John Fox has so much confidence in Jake the Fake!!!. If you look back on pass playoffs games he does the same thing every time loses the big one. He looks good or should I say semi-good during the season then get too the post season and throw it all away. WE NEED A MOBILE QUARTER BACK PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jake is a good off the bench quarterback not a big time QB. I wanted to say this 5 years ago………………PLEASE DRAFT A QB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
