Bobcats offseason update

With little money to spend and an owner that wants out, it’s been quiet in the Queen City this summer.

The Bobcats allowed Sean May to become an unrestricted free agent by not tendering him a qualifying offer.

May has worked out for the Blazers, Cavs, Kings and Clippers this week.

Even though the Bobcats need more depth at power forward, they aren’t expected to bring May back.

2009 NBA Draft

The Bobcats selected SG/SF Gerald Henderson from Duke, SF/PF Derek Brown from Xavier and SG Robert Vaden from UAB in the 2009 NBA Draft. Charlotte then traded Vaden to Oklahoma City for cash shortly after.

Brown had a decent debut in the summer league, per Bobcats.com:

In his five games in Orlando, Brown led the Jazz with 12.6 points per game on 53.1 percent shooting (26 of 49) from the field, while bringing down an average of 3.0 rebounds

Henderson, thus far, hasn’t had much of an impact. Gerald was held scoreless in his first game with the Timberwolves summer league team, but managed to grab two rebounds, two steals and add one assist to his stat sheet.

Felton the free agent

According to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer, the Bobcats and restricted free agent Raymond Felton are “pretty far apart” on a long-term contract.

“I don’t see any situation where he’s not with us,” Jordan said last month. “I anticipate us keeping Raymond Felton, without a doubt.”

Meanwhile, former Bobcat draft bust Adam Morrison has been lighting up the summer league for the L.A. Lakers.

According to the L.A. Times:

Keeping it in perspective because, after all, this is summer league, not the heart of the NBA season, things are going well. He has averaged 20.8 points in four games. He scored 20 points against the Clippers on Monday, and had 17 points the next night against Oklahoma City.

“He’s a shot maker . . . and it looks to me like he’s playing with confidence,” Kupchak said during Monday’s game.
