AP: Bobcats trading Okafor to Hornets for Chandler
According to the Associated Press, the Bobcats are finalizing a trade that would see center Emeka Okafor head to New Orleans for center Tyson Chandler.
Chandler was traded to Oklahoma City last season, but the deal fell through due to Chandler failing a physical. Chandler played in only 32 games last season after missing time with a toe injury.
It’s not immediately known if the deal involves other elements, but as reported by the Associated Press and their two sources each speaking on condition of anonymity, the deal should be consummated on Monday.
Chandler would receive $11.8 million this upcoming season, but would be able to opt out before the 2010-11 season. Okafor has more than $60 million and 5-years left on his deal with the Bobcats. Any move involving Okafor would certainly be to open salary cap space and reduce overhead — something that could be attractive to potential buyers.
