Carolina QB Controversy? No Way.
If you have been reading the local papers, you will by now have noticed a real uncertainty of who the starting QB will be next season. Today for example, the Charlotte Observer’s Charles Chandler compares Jake Delhomme to Brett Favre…
It’s also worth noting that quarterbacks sometimes are able to come back strong after dismal seasons. Minnesota’s Brett Favre has excelled this season at age 40, four years after throwing a career-worst 29 interceptions for Green Bay in 2005.
No, I am not making this up. You really did just read that.
Of course, those of us not worried about media sanctions from the Panthers can safely say that Jake Delhomme is done in Carolina. He gave us a few good years, and one very, very bad one. All in all he is a good guy that performed well above his ability or expectations, making a good bit of money in doing so. But that was then, and Matt Moore is now.
It took Moore 5 games to win 4. It took Delhomme 11 games to win the same amount. This is the most telling, and most important stat of the season.
No Carolina, there is no QB controversy. The superior QB is completely obvious.
The only thing left is for the Panthers organization to fully back Moore as the future of this franchise. Showing him this confidence is crucial going into his first offseason as a starter. Anything less and you are preventing a talented young QB from reaching his full potential.
