Colin Kaepernick Cornered, Compared to Cam Newton

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick have always drawn comparisons from fans and media alike. Both are very athletic quarterbacks drafted in the same year with similar styles of play.

When it came to popularity and effectiveness, Colin Kaepernick had the upper hand over Cam Newton. This was punctuated during┬áthe 49ers handing the Panthers a home playoff loss in 2013. Kaepernick put a huge exclamation point on his superiority by copying Cam Newton’s Superman pose.

Since then, Cam Newton has been MVP while Colin Kaepernick is now being coached by Chip Kelly and sitting the bench behind Blaine Gabbert. It seems fate did not favor Colin over Cam Newton after all.

Fans have taken note of this fact as well. Take the following awkward video for example. In it, drunken 49ers fans try to encourage Colin Kaepernick, but cannot help but mention Cam as someone Kaepernick should strive to be more like.

Kaepernick agrees with the fans, confirming that Cam is indeed great. But he also reminds the fans that “We ain’t the same person”.

To his credit, Kaepernick handled the unintentionally insulting 49ers fans with as much poise as possible. He could have simply walked away instead of entertaining their drunken blathering.
