Day 13 of Carolina Panthers training camp featured fantastic plays, short tempers, and plenty of smack talk to go around. Ron Rivera did not approve of the aggressive nature of the practice, reminding us that “the Panthers do not play the Panthers” after practice.
“The competitive nature got carried away, it got a little more physical than it should have been” Rivera said. “We are in pads, but that doesn’t give us liberty to do some of the things that happened out there.” What happened exactly? Well, we don’t know for sure, but Rivera did give us a few hints. “We had a couple guys take a couple shots. A couple guys took exception to them, more so than anything else. This was the result of overenthusiastic play.”
Cam Newton showed off his patriotic cleats today, perhaps in support of the US Olympic team. Cam’s cleats are always a point of emphasis for him.
Carolina Panthers middle linebacker Luke Kuechly intercepted Cam Newton for the first time this training camp. Newton has stated that his goal for this camp was not to have either Keuchly or Thomas Davis intercept one of his passed. With only three practices left, Newton fell short of that goal.
Kuechly sprang in front of receiver Kelvin Benjamin and in an instant had it in his hands as he ran towards the end zone. He kept running, well after the play was over, as a point of emphasis.
For the rest of the practice, Newton kept an extra close eye on Luke Kuechly. One interception was bad enough, two and he would never hear the end of it.
