Over the past three preseasons, a highlight for the Carolina Panthers has been the opportunity to test its defense against Tom Brady.
However, the Carolina Panthers should not expect Tom Brady on Friday night, even though Brady himself would like to play.
“I’d like to take advantage of any opportunity, any and all of them if possible,” Brady recently said. “When you see your teammates out there in their uniforms and ready to go, you want to be out there with them.”
“I don’t think any (reps) hurt, so I think just do the best you can do. We’re preparing a lot of guys to get ready to play,” Brady said. “I fit into that, but so do a lot of other guys. I’m just taking the advice of coach (Belichick), and whatever he wants to do, I’m going to do everything I can to be ready to go when I am called upon. That’s what my responsibility is, so that’s what I’m preparing to do.”
However, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has a different position than Brady, who is facing a four game suspension to start the NFL season.
“All three quarterbacks are extremely important. Jimmy’s preparation for the Arizona opener is the most important,” Belichick said when asked about giving Brady reps Friday. “Nothing’s changed. Nothing’s going to change. That’s the way it’s going to be.”
Translation: You will not see Tom Brady under center this Friday night at Bank of America Stadium. Preparing backup Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to fill in for Brady during his suspension is taking priority.
