Cam Newton – Some things are bigger than football

During his Carolina Panthers press conference, Cam Newton explained why he chose to wear a warm up t-shirt that quoted Martin Luther King.

“I’m affiliated with this community, and I care about it. I actually live in Charlotte. When certain things happen…I’m a human being that resides in Charlotte. ”

“So, I think that is bigger than football.”

The shirt read:

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere -MLK”carolina panthers cam newton

Newton went on to explain what his thoughts were on that particular quote and what it means to him.

“It was just so fitting for what was going on” Newton said.  “I just wanted to bring awareness to everyone. About holding yourself into account and just doing the right thing, no matter who it is. No matter the age, no matter the race, no matter the gender, it doesn’t matter.”

Does Cam Newton have something else planned this week? Can we expect more statements made via shirts before games? Could be.

“You just gotta stay tuned to it. ” Newton said.
