Rumor: Carolina Panthers attempting to trade up to number two

There is a new rumor floating around that the Carolina Panthers are attempting to trade up and acquire the number two overall pick from the San Francisco 49ers. This rumor appears to have started here .

“Cincinnati & Carolina are in heavy talks with San Francisco, but Carolina’s offer of three picks (first, second, third) is currently the best offer San Francisco has for the #2 pick. Word is that Cleveland has asked for time to make a presentation to the 49ers, but if the Carolina deal goes through, it is with the Panthers’ intention of taking Fournette.”

Now, let us first acknowledge that this is a rumor. I have no first hand knowledge of this going down. However, part of the fun of draft week is the possibility for trades, and I am tired of mock drafts, so why not ponder the possibilities.

Personally, I do not see this happening just for Leonard Fournette. Yes, the Panthers do have their heart set on him, but there are plenty of other players they like as well. That said, there is another possibility that could give this rumor a little more credibility.

But what if the possible trade would be conditional, based on Cleveland doing a very Cleveland thing. Namely, passing on Myles Garrett for a quarterback. Then the Carolina Panthers would land the best defensive end prospect in a decade and also filling their most glaring need. In my opinion, this would absolutely be worth the trade. Keep in mind the Panthers would still have a second round pick to address tight end, which I discuss 3 possibilities here.

In any event, this is all smoke at this point. We will find out soon enough if there is any fire. To discuss this topic with thousands of Carolina Panthers fans, just click on over here and keep up with the latest developments.
