Carolina Panthers at Tennessee Titans – Three things to look for

Today the Carolina Panthers square off against the Tennessee Titans in a preseason extravaganza that will surely delight the senses. Although Cam Newton won’t be playing, there is still plenty for Panthers fans to be excited about seeing today. Here are three things I will be keeping an eye on, and I suggest you do so as well.

Defensive Domination

I have been trying to quell my excitement for the Carolina Panthers defense this season, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to do so. The Panthers could have the best defense in their history this year depending on just one group – defensive ends.

Between Charles Johnson, Julius Peppers, and Mario Addison the Panthers have a group that could exceed expectations. Unfortunately, the opposite is also true. If these three can put together a solid season, the Panther defense will likely rank in the top three in the league.

I will be keeping an eye on not only these players (if they do indeed play today) but also rookie Daeshon Hall. Hall has come on strong in training camp as of late and has the potential to effectively spell the starting ends. That would go a long way in keeping the pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Stretch the Field

The Panthers have a problem. As of today, they have no one that has proven they can stretch the field consistently. A wide receiver that can gain separation and make the big play. Last season it was Ted Ginn. Who that is this season is a mystery.

Curtis Samuel has been injured. Damiere Byrd has shown promise, but is still largely an unknown. Two other names to keep an eye on are Austin Duke and Kaelin Clay. Both have come on strong as of late and could force the Carolina Panthers to keep a sixth receiver.

A TD for CMC

Christian McCaffrey came very close to breaking off a long touchdown last week against the Houston Texans. McCaffrey should get even more opportunities this week to score.

If McCaffrey can put on film the ability to get by the first level of the defense, it will make defensive coordinators second guess being too aggressive with their linebackers. This would be good news for the entire Panthers offense. Hopefully, McCaffrey can put the league on notice today.

If you are a Panthers fan, you really need to check this out. There is no better place to keep up with the latest information.
