Tonight the Philadelphia Eagles visit Bank of America Stadium to square off against the Carolina Panthers. At a glance, this game could be the best Thursday night game the NFL sees in 2017. Both teams sit at a promising 4-1 with the postseason looking likely at this point. Some have speculated tonight may have implications on the NFC’s first seed, but I am not ready to go that far for either team just yet.
Ironically, the last time the Eagles visited Carolina was in October of the 2015 season. They return now, when the Carolina Panthers are once again feeling like their 2015 selves again for the first time in over a year. A convincing win for the Panthers this evening could propel them to Superbowl favorite status and place Cam Newton back in MVP conversations.
I suspect the Carolina Panthers have another slow start this week and fall behind to the Eagles in the first quarter. Then, in Panthers-like fashion fashion take the lead in quarter 2 and 3. Once quarter 4 arrives, as sure as the sun rises in the east sets in the west, Ron Rivera allows the Eagles back in the game thanks to conservative play calling on offense and a prevent defense.
Look for the Philadelphia Eagles to capitalize on the Panthers’ woes at safety with a big play in the fourth quarter. Carson Wentz is easily good enough to exploit the Panthers defense with a deep ball or two this evening. I agree with the national pundits that Wentz is the real deal.
The result will be another nail biter that comes down to the final drive. In the end, Cam Newton once again rises to the occasion and allows the Panthers offense to run out the clock with his quarterbacking heroics.
