By the Numbers – Miami Dolphins at Carolina Panthers

Here is a quick glance at the statistical Monday Night Football game tonight featuring the Miami Dolphin at the Carolina Panthers. There are a few things worth noting here.

Apparently, Jay Cutler is not as bad as most think. In fact, he currently has a better QB rating than Cam Newton and is completing 66% of his passes. Still, the Miami Dolphins have the 29th ranks passing offense in the league. Dinking and dunking to Jarvis Landry can only take you so far. Miami will need to get vertical and take advantage of the Panthers secondary that is suspect at times. (See Julio Jones drop in the endzone as reference.)

The Dolphins defense is better against the run, which matches them up pretty well against the Carolina Panthers. As we have seen all season long, when the Panthers cannot run the ball their offense looks impotent. Cam Newton will need to once again take control of the game with his legs this evening.

The Dolphins offense gives up more sacks than the NFL average. It could be a good night for Mario Addison who has quietly been among the best pass rushers in the league over the past 16 games with 14.5 sacks. That is a pro bowl caliber number.
