Anyone that has listened to a John Fox press conference knows he speaks a lot of words, but rarely say anything. That is what makes his latest statement regarding his job as head coach very interesting.
“I’ve got a year on my contract. I don’t want get into that right now,” Fox said. “Our focus is to get through the season. I have an agent (who) deals with that.”
Seems harmless enough, right? Not so. Read more

What will happen in an uncapped year… in terms everyday Panthers fans will understand…
1. The “Final Eight” plan:
This plan you may have heard about will cause the final 8 playoff teams (the 1 and 2 seeds from each conference, and the winners of the 3-6, 4-5 seed games in each conference) to not be able to enter a normal free agency period in 2010. Read more

After watching Matt Moore’s performance over the past two weeks, every Panthers fan in the nation is wondering the same thing… what if Moore started earlier in the season?
After all, it was clear to nearly everyone without some extreme emotional attachment to Jake Delhomme that his career was over after week one of the season. Quarterbacks do not play that poorly in this league and remain a starter, right? John Fox disagrees. Only an act of God (in the form of a broken finger) can unseat a terrible quarterback. Even in the moments up until the broken finger, John Fox spoke his now infamous quote “Jake Delhomme gives us the best chance to win”. I am guessing Fox would love to take that one back by now.

It seems no one has told the Panthers they are out of the playoffs yet. Last night they seemed to put together the energetic performance we have been looking for all season long. While enjoyable to watch, one can only think about how this season may have gone differently if Delhomme was pulled after week one.
On with the grades…
Offense:
The most balanced and efficient offensive effort of the season. Matt Moore finally began to settle down and showed flashes of what he could be given the time to develop. Stewart ran for over 100 yards and Steve Smith put on a clinic. Despite the extremely poor officiating that tried desperately to keep Saint Favre in the game, the Panthers did enough to beat one of the league’s best. Without Deangelo Williams, without both starting tackles. Read more

In a recent Fox Sports article, Jake Delhomme and Julius Peppers both are named the NFL’s Biggest Ripoffs.
I am not in complete agreement here, at least not when it comes to Julius Peppers. Peppers has actually had a decent season as a starter. Not a pro bowl performance mind you, but not horrible either. If he was not Julius Peppers, he would be seen as a solid player for the Panthers. But since he is, more is expected of him. Expensive? Yes. Total Ripoff? No. Read more

John Fox believes Jake Delhomme has given the Panthers the best chance to win all season long.
John Fox was proven completely wrong.

Sources close to the Huddle have told us to expect Matt Moore to be the starting QB this Sunday against Tampa Bay.
Moore’s start comes just after a phantom injury to starter Jake Delhomme who has had a disappointing season, to put it mildly. Some fans started wondering weeks ago when Delhomme would have a phantom injury. This would allow Jake to be benched without bruising the egos of the player or coaching staff. If only they were as concerned with winning the games.
Expect a renewed interest and enthusiasm Sunday with Moore starting. Hopefully, he can live up to the responsibility.

I am not saying Beason did, or did not, commit the assault that is currently plastered over every news broadcast and webpage in the Charlotte area. I was not there.
However, according to WCNC, the alleged victim:
has a history of legal troubles, according to court records, including charges of assaulting a female and writing a worthless check in 2008, both of which were dismissed. He was most recently arrested for aggressive driving in October.
If I did not know any better I might conclude this gentlemen to be one of the many overly aggressive oxygen wasters this city has seen an influx in over the years. We have all seen them on the interstates bullying other drivers and in the clubs looking for trouble. Big on mouth, short on brains. Just the type of guy that may pick a fight with a NFL linebacker.
Sounds to me like he may have gotten a quick lesson in etiquette.
