Some great new pictures in the Observer today of the stadium construction. The stadium will be finished in September.

Charlotte has a very nice looking campus and I'm sure this will look great too. Any idea on how many it's supposed to hold?

I believe it's supposed to hold around 15k, with the ability to expand to around 40 over it's lifetime....

Funding is requested for expansion in 2014. If it is approved, that means it will probably be expanded in 2015 or 2016.

Since we'll be playing in CUSA now instead of FCS (starting 2015), we'll be using temporary bleachers to expand the seating. With that, the capacity will be 25,000 until the permanent expansion is completed. The capacity then will be 40,000.

The stadium is build so that it can be expanded to 60,000, but I doubt we'll ever have a need for that. If we ever play a really big time opponent at home, we can put temp. seating in the endzone and probably add 5000 or so seats to bring capacity to 45,000.

At what point would BOA come into the picture?
Never. Richardson doesn't want a college team playing on his field every week.

BoA costs about $600,000 to rent and would then own part of the ticket revenue and the concessions revenue. Can't make money if you have to give up that much money.

I could definitely see us playing a game there if we ever played against South Carolina, WV, or another program that would have enough pull to get us to move a game there, but it will never be a regular thing.

USC-ECU last year didn't fill up BoA, so I'm sure we wouldn't really need to use it if we have 40,000 seats.

Here is a webcam of the stadium construction. It takes a photo every 15 minutes or so.

You'd be more likely to come close to filling it up down the road if you played VT. I'm pretty sure the ECU-VT game in 2008 brought 72,000+ to BoA.
VT is actually on the schedule, but not until like 2017 or 2018. It is an away game though.

I'm thinking they'll probably cancel now though because we will no longer be an FCS program.

I was there. Bout had to give some 40 year old tech fans a reality check.

Just like the USC game here, it's not a sell out b/c not all the seats are able to be purchased.

I was there too. Then came back to Greenville the following week to watch us beat Pat White and WVU with relative ease.

Yeah that was a special season. Had a good friend starting on that team and he really made some plays and made us proud.

video board supports went up today:

It will be approximately 70 feet wide, making them only slightly smaller than the video boards used in BoA stadium.
haha I feel you on that.

I drove through campus a few days ago and its really incredible how much it has changed since I was a freshman in 2005.

Had it happened 20 years ago, we'd probably be in the Big East right now. We were a candidate in 03, but were left out due to lack of football. The Catholic schools pushed for the inclusion of the catholic basketball schools over us and St. Louis (Jesuit).

Some new updates courtesy of the Observer.

The field house was completed this week and control turned over yesterday.

The bowl is completely finished.

They are now spreading gravel on the field for the subsurface of the field.

The field turf will start going down on Tuesday.

Turf installation should begin tomorrow, weather permitting.

Nearing completion. Most of the turf is down, but it still needs the logo at midfield, CHARLOTTE in the endzones, and the yardline numbers.

We held our first practice today.

In between classes I drove over to take a look at the stadium and damn I'm ready for it to be 2013. UNCC's school spirit is way up from previous years, football is going to do great things for this school.

Yeah, I'm pumped. I'll be even more excited in 2015 though when we start conference play. Although CUSA is not an upper tier conference, I very much look forward to playing quality programs like ECU, Southern Miss, Marshall.

Word has it we're finalizing a deal to play a BCS team at home in 2015, but no word on who it was. I immediately though Wake Forest due to our ties to that program, but they have a full 2015 schedule. Duke too. Not sure what other BCS programs might be willing to play us at home in what will probably only be a 25,000 seat stadium at that time. It certainly won't be UNC, NC State, Clemson, or USC.

I'm pumped. This is great for the school and city. I'm looking forward to the rise of school spirt, as well.

Looking forward to kickoff!
