Because the government wastes our money.

The Environmental Protection Agency spent nearly $40,000 on a portrait of Administrator Lisa P. Jackson, while a painting of Air Force Secretary Michael B. Donley will cost $41,200, according to federal purchasing records. The price tag for a 3-by-4-foot oil portrait of Agriculture Department Secretary Thomas J. All told, the government has paid out at least $180,000 for official portraits since last year, according to a review by The Washington Times of spending records at federal agencies and military offices across government.

This is not a Dem or Repub thing... they all do it.

I get that it's a tradition that has been being done for ages, but that doesn't mean it's wise to do...

$40,000 for a portrait??? Take a damn picture, blow it up and frame it. It'll last just as long, and surely won't cost that much.

It's absolutely insane that people are still OK with the way the government spends OUR dollars.

I could go on a rampage.

No kidding, not to mention I can take a picture with my digital camera and upload it to photofiddle and for $25 dollars it will look exactly like an oil painting.

I can spiring an extra 20 bucks and get it printed on canvas...

Maybe I should start doing this for the government.
I could sell them to the government agencies for the rock bottom price of $10,000!!!

What do you think would happen if you had to pay your taxes at the end of every month/ just imagine if all the sales and income taxes were paid in check form at the end of the month. And you had to look at the total amount every time? taxes on every hour you work + all the things you buy in one month, 12 times a year!

No doubt, income.

Romney doesn't have to pay another penny of income tax the rest of his life, but he would have massive taxes on his wealth.

Same could be said for anyone who amassed fortunes.

Well, I could never imagine seeing this kind of lavish wasteful spending done in the private sector!

It's their money to do it.

That's our money they are spending it on.

You have a choice if you want to support private excess.

You are smarter than this.

No, I'm in the "private industry acts just as moronic with money as the government when it gets big and bureaucratic enough" camp.

But let's all continue with our mindless "Private GOOD!!!! Government BAD!!!! Fire BURN!!!" rant. Nuanced approaches be damned.

How about instead of going off the deep end with your liberal trolling, we just try to have some responsibility/accountability in gov't spending?
