That explains why he didn't put "under god" in it !!!

Thankfully we fixed that up for him after he passed away. You're welcome, francis.

I agree. Shouldn't pledge your allegiance to anything, especially a fuging flag.

Am I the only one who didn't really care about doing it in school and then after I started getting older realized that it was stupid as fug? True story, one time in 3rd grade one of my classmates was beaten by her Dad because she didn't "show proper respect" during the national anthem.

Wouldn't removing the flag altogether give every citizen a chance at not being offended?

Think of the kids whose right biceps are slightly larger than their left from all those years of pledging.

Look at how much faster we could get our sporting events. I bet it would keep people from leaving early from the games to beat traffic.

i'd rather kids in school begin the day reciting the bill of rights than offering up some vague, nationalistic, jingoistic prayer to a piece of cloth

isn't there a commandment or something against this? false idols and graven images?

hypocrites

Yeah I don't like the pledge more than I don't give a poo about the national anthem. My son's school spends the first 5-10 mins everyday reciting multiple pledges and songs about America and his school.

Again the collective outrage from either side of an issue always gets the pub.
But no marching on DC for kids learning to balance a check book or bringing P.E. back.

What truly benefits the greater good has no spokesperson. But by God a fringe group is more organized than an OCD wedding planner.

Most schools barely have it. Or what they do have it hardly qualifies as physical.

I am a graduate of Edward Bellamy Middle School, Ed was Francis cousin, and also a socialist.
A turn to utopian science fiction with Looking Backward, 2000–1887, published in January 1888, captured the public imagination and catapulted Bellamy to literary fame.[sup][1][/sup] The publisher of the book could scarcely keep up with demand. Within a year the book had sold some 200,000 copies and by the end of the 19th century it had sold more copies than any other book published in America outside of Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe.[sup][4][/sup] Although Bellamy claimed he did not write Looking Backward as a blueprint for political action, but rather sought to write "a literary fantasy, a fairy tale of social felicity,"[sup][5][/sup] the book inspired legions of inspired readers to establish so-called Nationalist Clubs, beginning in Boston late in 1888.[sup][6][/sup] Bellamy's vision of a country relieved of its social ills through abandonment of the principle of competition and establishment of state ownership of industry proved an appealing panacea to a generation of intellectuals alienated from the dark side of Gilded Age America. By 1891 it was reported that no fewer than 162 Nationalist Clubs were in existence.
Ronnie Reagans "good old days" no doubt

Please show me where anyone has been "forced" to do this. We should put a stop to this for sure.

Thoughtless traditions that mean way to much to people. I put it on the same level as the "you can't wear white shoes before Easter" . ( or is it Memorial day? )
