uscgamecocks's Activity

  1. uscgamecocks added a post in a topic Could we be going into Tampa next week without Luke, Davis and Johnson?

No he missed most of the last two drives.  He played maybe two snaps of the touchdown drive and not at all on the final drive.  I know because he was standing on the sideline next to Ron the entire time with his helmet on.  Seemed like he wanted to go in but the coaches wouldn't let him.

    Would rather keep Bersin.

I liked Todman better than Fozzy and Wegher - but the staff probably knows what they are doing.

Strikes me as a potential replacement for Philly if he doesn't work out his hands issue.  By all accounts we liked Norwood in the 4th round last year - might have been rated higher than Philly in draft eval and he has good hands.  Give Philly a few weeks and if things don't improve give Norwood a shot.

Please make this happen.  Bruce is an excellent receiver prospect.  As a gamecock fan I'm pulling for Byrd to make the PS because he has a ton of talent and has made the most of his opportunities here.  But Ellington is on another level.  He is a better slot receiver right now than anyone on our roster.

Was thinking the same thing. Browning and Byrd didn't get to play because Philly played into the fourth.
Getting Byrd to the practice squad would be a win.  Not showing him to the Patriots isn't the worst thing in the world.  Byrd has as much long term potential as Brown and he has much better hands so hope he can stick around.  But it never seemed likely that he would make the 53 - and losing Benjamin probably made that even more unlikely because we now need five or six guys that are ready to contribute right now.
Hope he doesn't ball out in the fourth preseason game.

I'm pulling for Byrd but I doubt he makes the 53.  Think there's a better than 50% shot right now we can sneak him onto the PS.
What he's shown:  the ability to consistently create separation, incredible acceleration and speed, and good hands (only one drop in two weeks).
What he hasn't shown:  the ability to do any of the above against 1's (or 2's?, though he hasn't been given the opportunity), can he run block?
I believe he has also earned two pass interference calls in the two preseason games thus far.
I firmly believe he is not a returner despite his speed and acceleration - just never has shown a knack for it.  Think we should give him a shot at gunner though.
Keep in mind that he hasn't been given a chance to show what he can do on the deep ball which was by far his best attribute in college.  I've been very impressed with his success thus far on short and intermediate routes - not something he consistently showed in college.  He's also a really smart guy - could see him backing up multiple spots (Ginn and slot).
But his speed is evident - I knew he had the CB beat on his TD a half second into the play. He has Ginn-type speed - something Corey Brown does not have in my opinion (though he is fast).
In the end, Funchess, Ginn, Cotchery, and Boykin are locks.  Brown will have a spot unless he repeats his no show next week.  Bersin probably has a spot.  If we can stash him he can take Cotch or Bersin's spot next year.
