update: still legal to murder black people in florida

again, given the context i think the dude acted pretty reasonably. he shoved him, caught himself, stepped backward and began to turn away. probably because he knew what it'd look like to police if he left that piece of poo with actual injuries. and now that i think about it, yeah, if he'd just ran for the hills once he saw the angry white guy then yeah he'd probably be alive. but what if he had instead finished the fuging job after shoving him to the ground? he'd probably still be alive (though certainly facing a murder charge).

are we discussing what happened or why it happened? there's a big difference between the two. we agree on what happened as far as i can see. nobody has really taken issue with what the video shows. questioning the victim's judgment is indeed a position he has staked out concerning the "why" of the matter. i think, given what we know, it is unfair to question his judgment. that's been my position from the start. i don't think that he acted unreasonably given the context and i don't think that he should have reasonably expected that shove to result in his murder. for that reason i don't find it a particularly interesting or important conversation to have. i see it as a means to spread blame or to otherwise distract from this, yet another execution of a black person at the hands of a likely racist. a likely racist who has been supported by the local police from the beginning.

he appeared to deescalate in the video. he backed away and began to turn away before he was shot. but i guess he wasn't perfect so....... ignore the rest? no i took that into consideration too. you agree with his message but not with his method. hmm where have i heard that before? and now you're itt blaming a victim of racist violence for not properly "deescalating." we call it stormhuddle for a reason.

black men always have to be sure to do the BEST thing in a given situation i guess like i said, he pushed him down (and more importantly away from his girlfriend who was at the time being harassed). he then stepped back and began turning away as he was shot. was it the BEST thing? no. was it reasonable? hell i think so. fug that guy. it's splitting hairs to say he didn't say that. the clear implication (not even sure if it was implied or outright stated) is that his actions led to a greater probability of death. that is still victim blaming. imo the victim should shoulder 0% of the blame here. i believe that he should have had no reasonable expectation that his actions would lead to his murder (i say this without considering what's "reasonable" for racial minorities to expect from white people and the police in america). the only person who behaved outside of reason was the shooter. CRA not only spreads blame to the victim, he actually diminishes the role of the shooter himself, calling him "crazy." i don't think "angry white guy looking for an excuse" is a mental illness.

because he didn't act like a hyper-rational robot in the face of some old white guy harassing his girlfriend you think he wasn't being "smart." i mean immediately after pushing him he backed away. seemed smart to me. maybe not "smart" enough for you. see this is my problem. people always seem to find some sort of angle when it comes to one of these "cop (or someone who might as well be) executes a black man" stories that shifts some fault toward the victim. im not here for it. you're not making some groundbreaking point here. you're arguing that because the victim didn't function at the peak of rationality that he bears some non-zero amount of responsibility for his death. you are telling on yourself.

i mean politically you're not far off dude. you just hate the way he presents it.

but we are talking about the victim after the fact. and i mean realistically if the victim just totally avoided white people as a matter of personal policy then he'd probably still be alive. we can talk about all kinds of things people can or should do or whatever to avoid being victimized by belligerent racists. but are they reasonable? is it reasonable to expect a person to behave perfectly rationally and risk-averse in that situation? i think not. my first thought was that i would have reacted the exact same way as the victim. even knowing as i type this that it would in all likelihood lead to an increased probability of death. but i think it's unfair to use hindsight to blame the victim in this situation (and yes, it IS victim blaming to say "if he hadn't done _____ then he'd still be alive")

nah i just want you to stop shitting on the victim of racist violence. the victim was angry and justifiably so. the shove isn't even in the top 3 most unreasonable things in that short video clip. you've had way more fuging words for the victim than anyone else involved and im not sure you've even mentioned the killer's role in initiating the whole damn thing to begin with.

lol im thinking back to the kaepernick stuff and how once it became #resistance-friendly enough for you how you tried to act like you were down with the protests. you're a fugin clown dude. do you want to prove how not racist you are? stop shitting on the victim of racist violence. stop "just asking questions" about his upbringing. he's dead because a racist white man wanted him dead. there's your story.
