Who gives a poo who promised who anything? The fact is that Vernon Butler may have the highest ceiling of not only any DT in the draft, but any D Lineman in the draft. What should Gettleman have done? Said "Well we have Star and KK, so I should take a 2nd rate player at a "need" position instead of a potential stud." This line of thinking would have had us passing on Cam (we just drafted Clausen), Luke (Beason was getting "healthy"), and KK (we had just drafted Star in the previous round). I personally admire Gettleman's ability to stick to the board.
What if Minnesota passed over Adrian Peterson because Chester Taylor was just coming off a good year? What if Green Bay passed on Aaron Rodgers because they believed they could get another 7 years out of Favre? The right moves often take guts to make, because initially they look wrong.
