really if you parse what Getlin said, it's nothing Rivera hasn't been saying for weeks. "optimism" "getting better" etc. he hasn't even seen the independent doctor yet (it's tomorrow IIRC). so literally no news in this.
I noticed a consistent ability to reset his feet in the pocket. he also stayed in the pocket probably more than he usually did. resetting his feet allowed his mechanics to be more consistent. even the throws he missed were a lot more on the money than I've noticed in the past.
IIRC the retirement was at least somewhat related to a back injury he sustained recently that would require surgery and 6+ weeks of rehabilitation. so if that's not a total lie, then he's not really being lazy. just being injured, at the precipice of a big decision, and out of pocket for the time being.
it's the right move for the Saints. glad they did it even though it royally screws their team, not so much with the loss of a useful player, but with the cap penalties that they of all teams did not need. still, guy like that does not deserve to play NFL football. hope he fades into obscurity until his head is in the right place and his actions reflect that.
