Worth noting that our only touchdown drive by the first team, in the third quarter, was against the Patriots' second team defense.

    Marlowe?
Why can't I think of the other fourth guy? The name escapes me. I know Lester is likely gone but who am I missing?

I actually like the back line better without Boateng. Lahm, Alonso, Alaba, and Bernat. What is Benetia's timetable to return?

Wish he finished there! Tough ball to handle but Costa has wowed me in every match this season.

Wow. I'm not sure anyone in the Bundesliga is going to have an answer for Douglas Costa. His pace and Müller's finishing is a great pairing

Gotta wonder how Götze feels about not being a starter today. I know the commentators were mentioning how he dislikes being taken out of matches and is increasingly frustrated by his playing time.

I was reading reports in training camp and on Twitter that Carter was catching multiple TD passes a day and that Moncrief has had a quiet showing in camp and in the one game he's played so far.

Hilton was extended a few weeks ago and Duron Carter has showed out better in camp than has Moncrief. Moncrief could potentially be 5th on the depth chart come week one.

Wouldn't mind offering a 4th or 5th for a solid receiver elsewhere buried on the depth chart. Dante Moncrief for example. He's about 4th on the depth chart in Indy and has the potential to be an upgrade over every receiver on this roster.

Was it Shaq that got into the backfield instantly on a blitz that allowed for Ealy to get the sack?

Video is on NFL.com of our failed 4th and 1 attempt. We run left and Norwell, Oher, and Folkerts actually do a decent job of standing up their man. They don't get much push, but a pretty massive lane emerges and unfortunately Olsen wiffs on his man and Tolbert blindly smashes into the pile in the wrong gap and does nothing to lead the way for Stewart. If Tolbert had actually seen the running lane he would have met Jamie Collins (who made the tackle) head on and Stew would have rumbled for the yard we needed. Instead, Tolbert is oblivious to the lane to his left, and Collins finds his way around the scrum and wraps Stew's legs before as he cuts back. Stewart was ready to hit the lane until he noticed he had no lead blocker and Collins was coming in untouched. Call me crazy but Lee Ward sees that lane and blows up Collins. Frustrating that we are trying to run a downhill, aggressive run-heavy offense but won't use a true FB to do so.

We see this from Shula in the regular season pretty frequently as well. The last time we faked a hand-off and rolled Cam out he found Olsen wide open for 6 at home against Atlanta. That may have been two years ago.
I'm not calling for anything exotic. I'm wanting to see something effective in a third pre-season game. How can we expect to be successful in the season when we are reluctant to play situational football to pick up a single yard? Surely we have more than a handful of plays in the arsenal for 4th and short. I'd rather give one of our countless short yardage plays away  on tape and see us convert then continuously get stuffed for no gain. Confidence for the offensive line and backs can go a long way.
