well john fox actually was one of the highest paid coaches in the NFL at one point.  this franchise has shown a willingness to spend, it's just that up until pretty recently it's been allocated poorly.
honestly i think the biggest FO blunder was keeping hurney around after 2010.  at the same time though, i don't know if someone with the style and mindset of dave gettleman would have been willing to spend the top pick on a prospect like cam newton.  obviously he just signed him to a big extension but that's with the benefit of four seasons, two pro bowls, a bunch of records, etc.

i would have liked him as depth
lmao though if they want him to immediately start and this has anything to do with their blue chip left tackle prospect that they just spent a top ten pick on

oh and don't forget his clothes line launched the next week
as did the implication that he had been busy with draft paper and a sewing machine instead of peeing in empty gatorade bottles at BoA during a marathon film/playbook study session or whatever

has to be x-clown for me.  i was 17 and had somewhat developed into one of those "pfft i'm too cool for sports" type teenagers but that all evaporated when steve smith broke into the clear.

yeah that's exactly what i was thinking when i read that post too.  isn't that exactly what we're all hoping is going to happen with michael oher?
tampa bay was a black hole last season and there's no telling what a change of scenery could do for him.  he's at least shown something before if only for one season.  plus he'd come cheap and with minimal risk.

he won't go as anything because NFL players aren't designated as members of any one team when they enter the hall

that is a classic fox thing though.  he was in love with that vanilla cover two and the concept of dropping the mike a million yards downfield into coverage.  it was so insanely frustrating to watch us trap an offense in a long down and distance only to allow a conversion because there were tumbleweeds rolling across the middle of the field.

i still remember my entire family huddled around the TV with my heart absolutely racing right before that play.  if we had pulled off the victory that would have been one of the great games in panther history but of course we all know what happened.
re-watching this i had forgotten how bad that defensive play call was though.  my god we dropped so many guys into coverage you'd think it was drew bledsoe or some other statue back there and not what might have been the actual fastest guy on the field who at that point in his career was only dangerous if he could escape the pocket.  it's amazing that it took our coaching staff what, five cracks at it to figure out how to slow down michael vick?

see i completely misread that and thought he was being sarcastic.  oh well.
the collins thing was just a very strange situation.  highly talented first round prospect who was going to wind up playing on a very cheap contract somewhere because every team would be coming at him with roughly similar offers.  one team was going to land him and surprise it wasn't us so that clearly means we didn't try and jerry richardson shut it down i guess.

the 2009 game sucked too.  of course in classic fashion we held our own against an allegedly far superior opponent until the fourth quarter and a delhomme pick six.

i remember that one and remember taunting the bills trolls who showed up here before the game about how double trouble was going to cornhole them.  i think jake had more than 40 pass attempts and threw 3 interceptions before it was all said and done.
a double digit loss at home to the bills quarterbacked by ryan fitzpatrick.  what a joke.

why the panthers haven't done this when 31 other teams have done it so easily themselves is one of the great mysteries of our time

i could live with sam baker or collins as backups.  the panthers weren't the ones who signed them to big money or traded draft picks to move back into the first round to get them.  i don't see the harm.

the last two years in FA have been pretty lame as far as left tackles go.  in 2014's FA about the only two that ended up playing above the value of the contracts they signed were donald penn and jared veldheer.  veldheer's cap figure goes way up this year and penn was a desperation signing that little was expected of after the raiders bungled roger saffold's physical.  the others were either major busts (collins) or got paid way above what we could have hoped to offer (branden albert).
dunlap and bulaga were the two "name" players that were re-signed by their respective teams before they could even really test the market this year.  joe barksdale signed for pretty cheap but he's more of a right tackle.  that position is just so highly valued now that it's difficult to just find one in free agency if you have cap problems.
