  1. Gettleman: We drafted a pass rusher

It's nauseating, and every time Carolina plays them I just accept the fact that we'll see at least two of those types of plays. Credit to them for making the plays, but if it were pool it would be slop every time.
  2. Tryout Invitations (OP updated May 5)

I think they know they need a TE who's at least a decent blocker since both Greg and Dickson are terrible at it. They brought in McNeill last year - better blocker and worse receiver - but he apparently didn't bring enough to the table to beat out Simonson and/or Brockel.
  3. Greg Bedard grades 2013 draft

In all reality yeah, but he is still in the league (played in 10 games with Philly last year). Probably aren't a ton of 6th rounders still kicking around the league after three years, at least not relative to picks in the higher rounds.
  4. Lester doesn't/didn't have nearly the instincts, overall athleticism, or nose for tackling that Cash does. Watching Cash's highlights honestly remind me of Luke in the way he moves and tackles, speaking to a high ceiling (at least higher than the average UDFA/low-round draft pick) if he can put it together at the NFL level.
  5. ICYMI: Rookie Jersey Numbers

The answers we were waiting for.
  6. About those corners...

The wrinkle is that Carolina's talent floor is already high and TC/the preseason is not a huge amount of time to evaluate a rookie newcomer when compared to someone (Dean Marlowe, Wegher ,etc.) who has been around for a year and already has upside. Draftees above the 5th round or so often make the team based on a combination of performance and potential but don't always immediately improve the team overall, and when you already have young guys who have been around for an entire season and have already shown potential then why not roll picks together and invest in someone who has a better chance of raising the talent floor?
  7. Panthers Tango with Cash

Seriously? His 4.56 40 time is 4/100 slower than TD's 4.52 coming out and a tenth faster than Norman's 4.66 and Kam Chancellor's 4.69... no idea what you mean by "too slow". The guy has a nose for the ball, knifes through traffic like Luke and will fill the Roman Harper-type player who won't be called upon to play major coverage.
  8. Where I'm going to put my replica SB 51 trophy - on the mantle or in the man-cave?
  9. A Funchess Reminder

    Fun-chess.
  10. Chargers release P Mike Scifres

I don't disagree with your general argument, and Scifres would be a quality addition. Wouldn't blame them if they pulled the trigger but also wouldn't mind seeing what the young guys can do.
  11. Seattle had it all come together when the secondary matured, Wagner came into the picture, they bolstered the pass rush with Avril/Bennet/Irvin, and Wilson's on-field miracles started to occur. The secondary had been together since 2011 but the team was 7-9 that year, going 11-5 (after adding Wilson, Wagner, and a couple others) and then 13-3 in their SB year after the roster changes noted above. Saying the secondary was the primary reason is inaccurate.
  12. Panthers Tango with Cash

Watching that highlight vid reminded me a ton of watching Luke knife through traffic and just bring the man down. Love this signing.
  13. Gettleman's biggest weakness IMO

You contradict yourself with these statements, and who cares if players are a 'reach' if they perform well and contribute. This is not to say that this year's picks are assured to do that, but so far his drafts have gone pretty well. For me, however, the larger concern is that drafts that only yield 4 or 5 picks require a strong hit rate. Again, it's worked out well thus far and the FO has earned the benefit of the doubt but still something to watch.
  14. Sort of (he played the 'Joker' in-the-box SS-type position his rookie year) but there was never any intention of leaving him there long-term.
