I'm pretty sure our ultimate plan is to just line up Chandler and Foucault out wide and have our scrub ass receivers take turns as the slot. You don't see the genius, and that's why your heads are exploding.
As I said, I hated the signing and thought it was both redundant and stupid, so I'm not a Boykin fan. BUT, despite him being trash, he was better trash than the current trash we have on the roster by all appearances in games.
And another thing that boggles my mind with our FO and coaching staff, and it's been this way for years... The snaps played in preseason and the depth chart MEAN NOTHING. Prime example... Boykin was running with the 1s and 2s, yet Byrd has barely even seen a handful of snaps through 3 games. But Boykin is a first round cut and Byrd is (as of now) still on the roster. Now, as I said, I thought Boykin was trash from the jump and I hated the signing, but I have been pulling for Byrd because of his athleticism and the dynamic that could bring to our team if he were to make it. But, I'm just saying, there doesn't seem to be a ton of reasoning behind these decisions at WR.
I thought we would've gave Boykin through the final cuts simply because he was our key FA signing at WR that the FO had us believe would be a steal. I never liked the signing, but I feel he has shown enough in preseason to merit sticking around (mainly because all of our other receivers are injured or suck).
I wasn't specifically referring to Norwood, I was referring to our general philosophy at WR. Also, in Norwood's case, his measureables weren't bad, but it clearly hasn't translated to on field production. He's fast in shorts, but all the scouting reports out there illustrate his athleticism doesn't translate.
No, my complaint is why trade ANYTHING for a guy who sucks, when we can just sign a guy that sucks? IMO, there are guys available that are better with more potential than Norwood. Obviously, I'm not an NFL front office executive, but I trust my eyes and there are guys who can play available and we just continue to turn a blind eye to them as if they don't exist. And what if we sign a guy like Moore off the street and he comes in and sucks too? What's the difference? One guy you're giving up a pick for so he can suck, one guy can be signed without giving anything up and has past production and better potential athletically.
I absolutely hate our philosophy on WRs. I just don't understand it. This was so stupid... For everyone talking trash about how there isn't anything better among free agents, you're telling me we couldn't have found better than Norwood? We love guys with horrible measureables and who generally suck (KB the exception). I'm starting to think we don't care about getting guys who can catch and make plays because we're really just looking for extra blockers.
