The only reason Brown's spot is guaranteed is due to the fact that our WR corps is a combination of unproven and injured (KB and Funchess) and pure, unadulterated hot trash (the rest of the group). Going into the season, I was hopeful about our WR corps, but that was because KB was looking like a beast and looked poised to potentially emerge as an elite NFL WR and Funchess looked good in camp. I figured if we had those two, guys like Ginn, Brown, etc. could be given room to be good enough. Then KB got hurt, Funchess has a lingering bad hammy and hasn't been able to get badly needed work in, Brown developed the yips and can't catch a cold and now all of a sudden our potentially promising looking WR corps now looks even worse than last year's unit.
What has Brown done in training camp or preseason THIS SEASON to show he deserves a roster spot? I'm not saying definitely cut him. I'm simply saying that he shouldn't be considered a lock. I really hope we continue working on shaping our WR corps because honestly, Brown and Bersin are the Bell and Chandler of WRs. They're guys who wouldn't make most NFL rosters, but our fanbase wants to believe they can be an answer for us. They just keep making our roster because we have the worst WR corps in the NFL.
For guys who teams have little invested in(guys like Brown and Williams), it shouldn't be about potential you've shown in the past, it should be what you've shown NOW. What have you done NOW? Nothing? Well, bye. Guys go undrafted for a reason. It's because no team deemed them worthy of a draft pick. If they work out (Norwell), then it's a very welcome surprise. The vast majority don't and just because you filled in for a few games last season and did alright doesn't mean you're a lock for the next decade.
If Brown isn't on the bubble, he should be. He's been horrific through this preseason and lots of reports of drops in practice too. This guy isn't a former top pick we have a lot invested in, he's a former undrafted free agent. He has no special skills nor special size. He doesn't contribute on special teams. In short, he's a guy who absolutely SHOULD be on the bubble. This fanbase way overrated his contributions last year. He was a welcome surprise as a WR, but it wasn't like he set the world on fire.
Bought the game on Friday and seriously considering returning it. I agree with the previous poster who said it feels like an arcade game now. The computer completes passes at an absurd rate while my guys drop passes left and right. Which, honestly seems realistic as all get out for the Panthers if I hadn't already revamped our WR corps (and traded 2016's 1st rounder for J.J. Watt who was listed on the trading block). Meanwhile, their RB seemingly breaks 3-4 tackles on every carry. I'll give it a little more time since I have 15 days to return it, but right now I'm not digging it at all. I've seen others complaining about the ease of throwing INTs but I'm not having an issue with that at all.
I don't know why everyone continue to count Brown as a deep threat. When have we ever seen it? Everyone talks about his speed, but on the field I've always seen a guy who is quicker than fast. IMO, he looks like a potential good fit as a slot guy, but a dedeep threat? Sorry, haven't seen it. I'd loving nothing more than him proving me wrong on that
