Thoughts? OP is a Derek Anderson.

    My personal current WR rankings:
    1. I'm assuming Funchess goes here.  I'm going against my own opinion and eyes and trusting Gettleman on this one.
    2. Ginn
    3. Cotchery
    4. Brown
    5. Byrd
    5. Norwood.  Same as #1, except I don't already have an opinion on him, I just know nothing about him. I vaguely recall looking him up last year during draft season, but don't remember what I saw from him.  Don't really know who to rank higher between him and Byrd, so I'll just make them both #5.

This is Brown's 2nd year.  He most certainly doesn't deserve to get cut yet, after we've given so much more time to such inferior players before.

If he were worth a poo he wouldn't have been a #4 or 5 on last year's squad (or especially this year's).  That's mostly what I'm saying.  In my amateur opinion we should be using that #4/5 slot on WRs that could possibly develop into more.  Not guys who seem (in my eyes) to have absolutely no potential for developing into more than a #4 or 5 on one of the worst WR corps in the league.  Give Byrd a chance over him, at least Byrd is an unknown and could possibly develop into a decent backup.  And I won't say more about Boykin over Bersin, I've thoroughly beaten that horse to death elsewhere.

I'm not expecting it.  I'd say under.  More like 500 yds, 5 TDs, 4 of which are from 40+.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree and see how the season turns out.  I'm not expecting much more than another less-than-impressive 150 yard season out of him again this year.  Would be great if I'm wrong.

I think "nearly everybody ... wanted to see Brown ... cut" is an exaggeration.  There were a few people that said some such foolishness, but Bersin is the one most want cut and believe Boykin is a better option than.  Brown is salvageable and still a project.  Bersin was once a pet project, and is now just a failed project.

this is exactly the kind of hyperbolic nonsense I was referring to.

In my job, if I take on a task that's been mishandled before I got there and I don't fix it, I do take the blame for not fixing it.

Besides no injuries? Moar Wegher.  Philly catch some passes.  Other WRs get a shot if he can't.  That's about it.

That's my point.  We're not judging Gettleman.  We're judging the collective effort that's been made to support our franchise QB.  Gettleman's done a MUCH better job than Hurney, but not enough to say we've appropriately built around our QB.  Are there things Gettleman could have done to fix all our complaints?  Probably not all of them.  But SURELY he could have done something about Shula at the very least.  Probably the travesty that our OL was last year too (and I'm not saying taking an OT in the first instead of KB, I was against the ones that were still available then anyway).

    - The entire failure that the 2011 draft class after Cam was.
    - Keeping Shula instead of getting a real OC.
    - Keeping Bell. As a starter.  (could have stopped after the first period)
    - Offensive skill players taken prior to KB last year: Pilares, Adams, Barner.
    - Believing Bell could be a replacement for Gross.
    - Believing Chandler could play RT, much less start there.
Those are the major ones, and more than enough for me to be comfortable with my claim.

I always get a chuckle when people ignore the points people are making and keep arguing by cherry picking things to talk about and using hyperbole to imply people are saying things they're not.  I won't speak for all of us in this conversation, but some of us are saying the job that's been done since our franchise QB was drafted. Not many, if any, are blasting Gettleman for that job. Gettleman has been by far the greatest GM we've had, so far. But the team has NOT put Cam in position to succeed since he got here.  In addition to treading water (at best) on the offense like I mentioned, but keeping the ball and chain that is Shula is severely hindering Cam's current and possibly, but hopefully not, future potential.

I'm talking about since Cam has been drafted. Two picks in the past two years, 3 and 4 years after Cam was drafted, is a start but not nearly enough. Before KB the only real investment we made was Olsen (since I'm not only talking about making draft picks). Funchess still has a lot to prove.  I wasn't a fan of him as a prospect, wasn't happy about him as a pick, but I'm strongly hoping I was wrong. I really want (and we really need) him to be good.  The Barners, Gaffneys, Joe Adamses don't count as investments (for those trying to list late round wastes of picks as investments).
Also I didn't say we have been ignoring Offense, I said largely ignoring. We have done a little: Olsen, Shockey, Oher, KB, maybe Funchess, Ginn kinda.  But if you look at our offensive talent from when we got Cam and look at it now there really hasn't been any progress. Just treading water at best.

Nobody has said they wish our team was built like the Colts.  They just wish more resources had been spent on giving Cam weapons like the Colts have done.  They wish one aspect was like the Colts.  Balance is key, you can't largely ignore the defense in building up your offense (like the Colts) or largely ignore the offense in building up the defense (like us).
