CHARLOTTE – The Panthers used their third-round draft pick, 92nd overall, to beef up their offensive line with the selection of Louisiana State guard Trai Turner.

Turner was an second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection this past season after starting all 13 games at right guard for the Tigers. The 6-3, 316-pounder started 20 games at right guard over two seasons in Baton Rogue.

Carolina Panthers @Panthers

Turner on his playing style: "I'm physical. I am able to overpower defensive tackles, but I'm also able to get to the second level."

Carolina Panthers @Panthers

Turner says he's a non-traditional guard. He started 13 games on the right side for LSU in 2013, with an an SEC-best 21 TD-resulting blocks.

Bryan Strickland @PanthersBryan

GM Dave Gettleman about to talk to media about the 600 pounds-worth of football players the Panthers drafted tonight.

Bryan Strickland @PanthersBryan

Trai Turner is a "hog molly," a "tough, nasty kid," Gettleman says of Carolina's third-round choice.

Black & Blue Review @BlackBlueReview

“The kid in the third round is a hog mollie. He gives us the power that we’re looking for. He’s a tough, nasty kid.” - DG on Turner

Black & Blue Review @BlackBlueReview

“It was the same as last year when we took KK in the second round. He was just too good of a value to pass up.” - DG on Ealy

Carolina Panthers @Panthers

Gettleman says G Trai Turner is a tough, nasty kid. “He gives us the power we’re looking for. He pulls well enough for us.”

Black & Blue Review @BlackBlueReview

DG now brings up Justin Tuck and how he had to play inside his first two years because of Strahan and Umenyiora.

Jonathan Jones @jjones9

"It’s really easy to kill a guy. It takes no talent to say he can’t do this." -Gettleman

Jonathan Jones @jjones9

"If a guy's stiff, a guy's stiff. You could stick him in a vat of WD40 and he's still stiff." -Gettleman

Carolina Panthers @Panthers

When Panthers made their pick at 60, Gettleman says Ealy was the highest player on the board. “You just can’t pass up good football players”

Black & Blue Review @BlackBlueReview

Black & Blue Review @BlackBlueReview

On LT: “We feel we have a very good handle on the players on our club.” Plan remains Bell vs Chandler. If a T is there tomorrow, ok.

Joe Person @josephperson

Gettleman says Panthers have 2 players who will compete at left tackle -- Bell and Chandler.

Carolina Panthers @Panthers

Gettleman: “If a tackle shows up tomorrow, we’ll take him.” #PanthersDraft

Bryan Strickland @PanthersBryan

Ron Rivera loves Kony Ealy's versatility and Trai Turner's nastiness and durability.

Black & Blue Review @BlackBlueReview

“I was shocked he was there.” - DG on Ealy

Jonathan Jones @jjones9

Gettleman said he'd like to get a corner tomorrow

Steve Reed @SteveReedAP

Gettleman said he would like to get a CB tomorrow. But have to say on Day 3 you look at guys and say "Why will they make it?"

Carolina Panthers @Panthers

Gettleman says he’d like to get a cornerback tomorrow, but noted that #Panthers found great value in Melvin White as a free agent last year.

Steve Reed @SteveReedAP

Gettleman said injuries to Kugbila and Silatolu played a role in decision to draft a guard. Rivera says Amini is further ahead than Edmund.

Black & Blue Review @BlackBlueReview

DG says Turner is strictly a guard. Doesn’t have the length to be a tackle.

Also, DG will be at his sons graduation for Day 3 and will use skype to stay in contact with the War Room.

Amini is ahead of schedule than Kugbila after tearing a fuging ACL?  Seriously?

I thought Kugbila just pulled a hammy or some poo and wasn't ready to start the season... definitely something they haven't told us.
