Man we have a misfit line :-(

This is NOT what you want your franchise quarterback standing behind when we play New Orleans and their aggressive blitzing defense.

We will be serviceable at G-C-G but that's because Kalil is just that good. Our OT situation is as bad as I can ever remember on paper.

Muddled is being nice...

I was going to say sh*t.

We really needed one more year of Gross and Wharton.

I think the interior will be pretty good, good depth and talent inside. Tackle is just such a gaping hole, althought gettleman said he likes bond

Hopefully it is just like you said....... Bad on paper but surprisingly pleasant once the season starts.

In my optimistic dreams I see Bell going back to right tackle and playing a smidge better than 2013. I see Chandler surprising folks with his feet and ability to hold his blocks. I think he will end up playing better than Bell. Crazier things have happened in the NFL so I am going to keep hope alive.

I trust our GM, coaches and scouts judgement on talent. The key is making sure the stage isn't to big for the person who wins the job. If the job isn't to big for them we should be ok I suppose.

All of this angst about the line is really overblown IMO.  Last year we were decimated with injuries at the guard position and in the end the line did decently.  The only guy we are replacing is Gross and that takes 1 guy to show up whether he is on the team already or we intend to pick him up when cuts are made.  Truth is we should actually be better at both guard positions and even if Bell is back at right tackle he wasn't exactly the disaster people make him out to be.  He wasn't good but he wasn't awful.

We will pick up at least 1 more LT and we have a bunch of guys who will be competing for the job.  Seems to me that our line will be as good or better at 4 positions and as for LT, I suspect Gettleman has a plan.  As much as he values hog mollies I just don't see him ignoring the LT position.  It is only May so there is still plenty of time to pick someone up.

Our offensive line is in shambles, there's no doubt about it.  It's full of question marks, and really that's just being optimistic.  Because IMO Byron Bell, Chandler, are back ups on a good team, not starters....

Gross and Wharton played outstanding, and graded out in the top 5 (profootball focus) at their respective positions, the left side of the line is the most important, so we basically had 3 pro bowl calibur people going from Center to LG to LT, the right side was decimated with injuries but with such a good left side that was easily compensated.  All that being said Cam still was sacked, hit, hurried, or rushed more than any other QB in the league.  So now we lose 2 of those top 5 position players and essentially replace them with Bell....who's has struggled on the right side already, and more question marks, etc.

I can see Turner working as backup center ON TOP of starting at RG, but I don't see there is anyway he won't be the starter at RG.

I'd assume it's to see if he can function there as needed since Piggy and Byers are gone. I'm certain he'll spend the bulk of his time at G. DG needs to know if he has to go shopping for a back up to Kalil.

i think aside from the apparent suggestion that hes a back up for kalil who might play RG, was thia idea that they are working him. are they already practicing?

rivera made a throwaway comment that turner had played center before at LSU. there has been literally nothing else to indicate he is going to be worked there.

he could be a piggy and play there if kalil went down but he's probably in the lead at RG over kugzilla, scott, and garry.

First of all Wharton was only brought in because Silatolu went on IR.  And Wharton did not play well in 2012 nor did Gross have a great year that year.  So the fact they had a great 2013 was terrific for the line but there was no guarantee that either would have a great year in 2014.  With Silatolu back and Kalil at center the left middle should be solid and again we need one guy to come up big and frankly the left side will be fine.  With either Turner or Kugbila at guard and Bell back the right side should actually be improved.  So while the prevailing view is that things are so bad, I think we will be much better than folks like you believe.

As for Cam getting sacked, hit or hurried more that other guys, we were in the middle of the pack with sacks.  As for hit and hurries that is expected when you run the ball as much as he does.  Secondly because he is so mobile he has a tendency to hold the ball too long trying to make a play which increases the number of hits and hurries he receives.  How many times does he actually turn into the defender trying to elude pressure instead of stepping up for example.  I an very glad we have him and he is so elusive but the reality is that running quarterbacks get hit more particularly ones who run the ball as much as he does.
