Kilgo is the best person on that entire station. The only people who don't like him are UNC haters.

He just sounds so damn old and grumpy.

Just heard it on my way home from work, kinda caught me by surprise. I have been listening to him and Taylor since they started the show 3 years ago, it was when i first began really listening to sports talk radio on the regular. Cant believe its been that long.

my god, the ear fuging you've forced upon yourself...

You would be to if you had to moderate all the idiot duke and NCSU fans that don't have jobs who call WFNZ 3 times a day. Not to mention they're probably pulling him away from a golf course.

I'd be willing to bet Kilgo works for free on those days when he fills in. The guy is a legend and when he's on the air you are being educated whether you realize it or not. He's not shoving his opinion down your throat. You are learning. Dude knows more about college basketball than at least half the people in the mainstream media. Now, he may not have the connections to teams/players away from the the state of NC and the ACC like Jeff Goodman, Gary Parrish, Jeff Borzello. Andy Katz, etc have - but he knows the history of the game. I love the guy. He's somebody who can educate you on basketball and can educate you on life.

I could not care less about college basketball until March. We are in a pro sports town and I want to hear about our NFL and NBA teams. That being said, his content is not the issue. It's his voice and delivery.

How many of you did I hear call in this afternoon and wish Marc farewell? Seemed like everyone is going to miss him. That, or he didn't allow the haters on the phone...

Ditto.

He's probably a douche in real life and he said on air that if he weren't in sports broadcasting he would be working for the paparazzi and TMZ. Are you kidding me? That is special type of scum bag that tries to catch an upskirt photo of a drunk Lindsay Lohan or start a tabloid fight between celebrities talking poo about each other like a bunch of school girls. That is the type of person we are dealing with here.

Loud, obnoxious, know it all. I don't wish any bad on him professionally or personally but I'm thrilled to see him go. He's somebody else's problem now. Word is he's heading to Atlanta. I'm sure he'll be telling the awful sports town that is the ATL how they are such great sports fan and he's got the smartest listeners in the south in no time.

WFNZ is a horrible station. Still, try listening to Bobby Rosinski on ESPN730. It's even worse.

You are in a minority my friend about not caring about college sports in North Carolina and the southeast. The Panthers and UNC/NCSU/duke/Wake/college hoops are the top dogs in this area and it ain't even close with anything else.

The university I attended was not an ACC school so UNC/Duke/NCSU etc are not on the top of my agenda. I watch college football but don't need to hear much talk radio discussing it. I could listen to Panther talk 24/7 and be content.

they might not be on your agenda - but ACC sports, UNC, NSCU, and duke are on the agenda of WFNZ's target audience and demographic. That is a fact. They wouldn't talk about it all the time if it didn't move the dial and generate ratings. It's why they don't talk about Seattle Mariners baseball or Minnesota Twins baseball on WFNZ. And why they probably don't talk much ACC basketball (aside from when UNC and duke play) in Seattle and Minnesota.

I as well could listen to Panthers talk 24/7, but we're kinda in that blah part of the year where baseball is still kinda getting started (and it's attendance and TV ratings are sinking faster than a ship in the Iraqi Navy), and if you aren't a big NBA fan (I am not but my love for NBA is slowly returning) and if you aren't a big hockey fan (which no true Southerner is) than you don't have much to talk about. NASCAR is in decline ratings wise but it still moves the dial here and they talk about that more on WFNZ than they do the Braves.

BS aside from this thread - I think 99% of us in here, most being a part of WFNZ's target audience and demographic, can all agree that Marc James WILL NOT be missed.

This is going to be interesting to see which way they go in their hire. Somebody mentioned Jordan Gross, and I gotta admit that is a pretty good idea, but I was listening to him on WBT and his podcasts....eh I dunno if he has that assertive/strong enough personality to lead a 5hr sports talk show. Even when he filled in on WBT, he really struck me as a type of guy who is kinda ready to move on from football and to be frank I dunno if he's versatile enough to handle the different sports in this area that are important like Nascar and ACC hoops. Gross isn't a meathead like Frank Garcia is.

I think Haywood could be a good choice, but even with him (or gross) they are going to have to bring in a seasoned radio guy that can kinda lead the way with Gross and/or Haywood as sorta the sidekick bringing a sort of expertise and credibility to the show.
