Didn't want to start my own thread but I'll be up at the game this Thursday. Jeters last home game as a Yankee :( A tear will be shed when he takes his curtain call.

Brooklyn Bully, you need to fill me in on some good drinking spots. Flying up tomorrow and staying in Brooklyn until Sunday.

And hey, Arroz. Just saw this. Where in BK are you staying? Best spots are in Williamsburg.

Quite possibly the greatest moment of my life. I would easily pay triple to see that again.

We're staying just past the Manhattan bridge....on gold street.

We've been going to the lower east side every night.

I live on Gold St, lol. Maine Panther Fan did too this summer for a job but now he's in the LES. Not sure when he goes back.

Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, etc...

Derek Jeter is right up there with those guys in terms of on field greatness & name recognition. He is arguably one of the 15 or so greatest players of all-time. It's well-deserved recognition.

absolutely. not a Yankee fan but Jeter has earned it.

None of that contradicts anything that I said.  I gave him credit, I said he was one of the fifteen best players of the last thirty years, but not top fifteen all-time.

Wagner, Cobb, Speaker, Ruth, Hornsby, Gehrig, Williams, Foxx, DiMaggio, Musial, Mantle, Mays, Aaron, Henderson, Robinson, Schmidt, Morgan, Bench, Ripken, Bonds, Pujols

That is twenty-one off the top of my head and does not include pitchers (which you included in the original statement).  Adding pitchers:

Young, Mathewson, W. Johnson, Alexander, Gibson, Spahn, Koufax, Clemens, Maddux, Martinez, R. Johnson

At least eleven more.  I am sure that there are some I forgot as I just started at 1900 and did it from memory.  As I said, he is one of the top players of his time, but to put him in the top fifteen all-time, particularly when including pitchers, ignores a large chunk of history.

Nolan Ryan?
