Steve Smith or Randy Moss?

68 posts in this topic

Rice, Brown, Bruce, Harrison, Carter, Owens, Moss.

7 WRs who will go into the hall before smitty, I'm not saying they all should, but they all will. Only 8 WRs have gone in in the last 20 years, which means it will be around 2028 until its smitty's turn, AT LEAST. He will have retired for 10-15 years and there will be plenty of other WRs eligable who are active now, Johnson, Johnson and Johnson, Wayne, Boldin, Fitz.

Bottom line is, smitty needs AT LEAST one ring to put him ahead of the pack.

Got to go with Steve Smith. The man is absolutely amazing to watch on the field and at any time can completely change the game. No disrespect to Moss, but I'll take Smith every time

I want to see a little more (out of both of them) before i say HoF. Smith needs a lot more TDs before he hangs it up. Moss has almost 100 more TDs than Smith. You have to take that into account. Obviously Moss has played longer but still Moss averages over 10 TDs a year and over 1,000 yards a year. Smith meanwhile has gotten 10 TD receptions one time (05 he had 12) Averages less than 1000 yards a year (although that will change soon) but averages only 5-6 TDs a year. That's not HoF numbers. That's what the voters will see. Don't be a homer. He could be but he needs a very good 2nd half to his career.

First let me say this. Because you disagree with my opinion doesn't mean I am a "Homer" no more than you love your Falcons and think M. Ryan is Rookie of the Year. Your opinion is noted but I take offense to the HOMER Comment.

Take away his rookie yr and 2004 when he broke his leg he is averaging about 1150 yds 8 TD per season. He won the triple crown(REC, YDs and TD) in 2005 which hasn't been won since Jerry Rice in the Mid 80's. Stats are only a part of the process. What is more important is how he compares to other WR's during his ERA and what impact did he have on the game. As I stated before. Teams are now drafting Strong Quick WRs in the mold of S. Smith and using the Smoke route that has made him dangerous on the field Finally IMO he is the most dangerous and complete WR in the league.

Write it down. S. Smith WILL make it to the HOF. 2nd Panther behind Julius Peppers (DE don't last as long as WR)

The HoF won't allow TO in unless he wins a SB in Dallas god forbid.

I dunno...I don't have his stats off the top of my head but I think he's already over that magical 10,000 yard mark.

And Steve Smith will make it into the hall of fame, if he has three or four more years like this one. Not necessarily for his stats either.

Tough question. I think if you look at the quality of QBs each has played with, Moss has had the edge. Smith put up 1000+ yards in '07 despite having to work with three subpar QBs, and I think that said a lot for him. Moss on the other hand out in Oakland quit when he didn't have a QB to light it up. Based on skill set alone, I'd say Moss is the better of the two. But based on heart, grit, and who I'd rather have on my team? Smith hands down. He just wants it a little bit more than everyone else it seems.

It wasn't directed at you personally. More of an in general kind of thing. I should have been more clear, i apologize for that. Obviously injuries are taken into account as well. That hurts your status more than helps IMO though. In his era there haven't been many who can match the consistency (Boldin, Fitzgerald, Harrison, Moss) but Smith doesn't match that type of production at each of their respective spots in their careers. IMO his TD numbers have to eclipse at LEAST 85 to have a good shot at the HoF

Remember, the media will keep you out if they don't like you a la Art Monk.

Moss is fantastic, but Smitty is better. It just he will do everything he can to win. Not to mention his speed & power are incredible. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a fan. ;)
