You can hear that he gunned the engine which in those cars makes them fishtail and he killed someone due to his negligence. He's going to jail. His temper got the best of him. Insane.

I'll paste my reply from another message board into this thread. For those not sure of how these cars work, it may seem much different than what may have happened.

I'll comment for others not sure of how these cars react on dirt.

They are designed to be pitched and rotated with the throttle and thus the suspension reacts very differently than that of a natural car. You hit the throttle, and the attitude of the car assumes a desired position almost naturally.. just with the spring setup.

The victim, in a stupid fit of rage, ran down into the path of race cars traveling on dirt, still going a decent speed. The car just prior to Tony's has to maneuver around the victim. Tony is in line of where the previous car was running.

Tony sees victim and steers left and throttles to miss him. The car takes it's natural path and kicks the right rear tire out, striking the victim.

There are two types of drivers out there. The type who drive 'through' danger and those who slow down and process it differently. It appears Tony had a throttle reflex and it may or may not have meant a difference in the outcome.

Let's keep blame open until further news arrives.

Stewart could have avoided this. Regardless of how stupid the kid was to do this. In Nascar its pretty common to see drivers hop out and be pissed off. Stewart could have just swerved out of the way. Why did he even thrust the throttle? I don't get that.

Sad to hear this happen. Local track here Bowman Gray Stadium drivers get out of there cars a lot. I'm surprise this hasn't happen there yet.

No clue if this is intentional or not but my heart breaks for that kid's family.

It's night, it's dark, the guy is wearing a black helmet and black fire suit, it's a local-yokel, poorly lit track and this guy decides to approach oncoming traffic.

Sad.

    • If nothing else that would mean more kicker jobs as guys like Lloyd would be in demand as a kick off specialist.
    • im generally ok with individual consumers boycotting but tbh im a little annoyed with companies boycotting. these businesses aren't benevolent and boycotting doesn't make their product more pure or their mode of production more ethical. i mean hey big deal ncaa, you moved your games. you're not taking much of a hit there but you get your positive press for your incredibly shitty business. like ok cool you hate the dumb law, i do too. maybe pay your employees before trying to stake out the moral high ground though??? meanwhile the nba moves it's all star game to louisiana where the largely black prison population still picks cotton on "former" slave plantations. hb2 is so mind numbingly stupid that it's easy to oppose without fear of having to sacrifice meaningful profits. im saving praise for companies that oppose oppressive institutions that aren't easy or profitable to oppose.
