Hawks Fans are mad RW isn't MVP

Recommended Posts

I get they are mad, which is fine.  Getting mad at something they can't control and doesn't change their win/loss record is dumb.

Fact is, the Media loves Wilson because he fits more into the "traditional QB Leader" archetype.  Cam is a whole 'nother beast (literally).  Cam can navigate the media as well as anyone, has the million dollar smile to go with his incredibly handsome self.  He has also carried our team through most of their wins.  Early on, the D was much stouter, and was able to save our butts (like the first NO game with Norman's game winning interception).  After the first month, it was the Cam show.  While Wilson has played really well, he's has 100 yard rushers and his defense continuing to make his job easier.

Consider this, Seattle has exactly ONE win where the other team scored more than 20 points...ONE...  What does that tell you?  Sure, Wilson is extremely accurate, but he's had very good defensive showings to give him the opportunity to throw all those TDs.  So if Wilson wants to win the MVP next year, he needs to have the best record in the league, but he also needs to elevate the rest of his team.  He is already part of an excellent team.  Cam is the heart of our team.

Cam's rushing first downs are by far this most unacknowledged and disregarded part of his game.

Only 3 NFL RBs converted more first downs on the ground than Cam.  Never mentioned by anyone.  Ever.  Local or national.

Why Cam's game is never fully respected.  People will go on and on about completion % where other QBs pad stats with dump offs.  They totally ignore that Cam is literally is own built in elite RB (which is more than TDs and goal line dives)

I'll take it further than even that.  That, as important and ignored as it is, is still something tangible, and something people could see (if they wanted to) with their eyeballs.  What does NOT show is the intangible, soul crushing nature of such runs on the human beings trying to stop him.

The simple fact is, Cam makes the team around him better. Russell Wilson had to wait for his team to get better before he started to look good.

Wilson was great this year, but Cam has no one on offense (or at least far less weapons than many top tier QB's) and won 15 of 16.  He's the MVP going away.  The only guy I'd have considered along with Cam is Carson Palmer and Sunday basically slammed that door shut.

A good number of them are starting to get insufferable. They despise the fact that Newton is gonna win MVP and that Norman is a DPOY candidate. In fact, anything Panthers-related is negative. Talk about an inferiority complex. I'm done chatting with them for awhile.

change that to be about Panthers fans and it would be just as appropriate..

I would say that RW can come over to cam's house to see the trophy, but cam will probably keep it on a shelf above RW's eye level.

That would make a funny meme too..

1. Drops

2. Because my QB is better than your QB because he's my QB

3. Madden

4. Seachickens

This is what is on my mind. It makes no sense. However, it makes as much sense as any seachicken "fan". Hope they get stomped by Teddy Football.

Damn...RW stats when his starting field position is bad...Didn't Cam have like 3 80 yard drives vs Seattle too? Maybe his defense does a lot for him

Yup

I especially love when they dismiss Cam's early season (even though at one point he had 7TD-2 INT's), when Wilson was much worse, and  Seahawk fans were being highly critical of Wilsons play.

Meanwhile Cam was touted an MVP candidate by Panther fans, media and close observers from day one. And everyone was aware of the numerous bad weather games, drops, and misfortune Cam experienced (dragging down his stats), while still managing to pull games out. So now that Seahawk fans think Wilson's in the running for MVP (or don't), now they criticized Newtons first few games as below standard.

Talk about misguided hubris, irrational thinking, and idiocy.

All Wilson do is get the ball out of his hands in 2-3 secs on his first read. If he's forced to hold the ball he looks to run and throw on the run what he does best. Their OC and Pete built a system to masks his weaknesses. Only system built around Cam was the running game, the passing game he had to learn 2 systems Shula and Chud. He had to read the defenses, stand in the pocket and make the throws. Im telling you if Wilson went to a different team he'll struggle and look completely different. Look what happened to Kaep who according to Jaws had potential to be the best QB ever. Harbaugh left and now he's on his way to being traded. Good QB, but everybody sees this except Seahawk fans

Yup Yup

This, and the rest of your points!

Been saying this for years-from day one (though you got to give him credit for surviving, compared to Kaep and RG3).

But you are right. Wilson struggled earlier this year when they tried to turn him into a pocket passer. Unfortunately, he held on to the ball too long, and/or ran too often; thus the plays broke down unsuccessfully all too often.

So the Hawks went back to his first two years calling card. This was getting rid of the ball quick (as you stated); essentially making him a one read QB. Once that 1st read is gone, he starts strutting around like a wild chicken, cause he can't see over the defense or properly read it. To his credit: He made a lot of those quick throws TD's count during his recent hot streak from the pocket (so didn't have to run). For this, the media said he was "throwing from the pocket (albeit with mostly one read/quick throw)". However, he's been back to his blind Hamster, scramble drill act the past few games, throwing short floaters on the run for cheap TD's.

Wilson's, not the patient QB that calmly looks over the defense and picks you apart or throws downfield (or even peeks through cracks and lanes from the pocket-like the 5'11" Brees). No he's not.

Most of Wilson's success is due to quick hitters, broken plays and scramble drill. That's it! Wilson, doesn't even make adjustments at the line; unless this has changed? His center does that (the one who used to do it, left the team). As you said; they scheme him very well most times. And they don't ask him to drop back and read defenses on a repeated basis.

This is why Seattle fans, when discussing Wilson (especially against Cam) will always bring up stats and numbers; no matter how nebulous vs actual evaluation and observation. This is because, Wilson doesn't pass the eye test (though he's still good at what he does). And then of course, their large base of Numb Nuts fans don't know; are incapable, or couldn't care less about any of this.

But hey!  Russell's been successful with it. Gotta give him credit for that. Which many do!  Nonetheless, he's faaaaaar from a pocket QB. Never has been. When the team was losing, this was clearly pointed out. And this should all eventually catch up with him IMO.

Funny thing is that Wilson didn't win SB MVP during their run either.
