Is this essentially a lame duck season?

Recommended Posts

With the firing of Gettleman and Hurney having the interim tag, everything after this season is an unknown. If a new GM comes in there is a good chance he will want to bring his own guys in with him. If Hurney is retained, he may want to bring in a different coaching staff as well.

Idk, something just seems off about this season. The coaches and Cams press conferences have seemed a bit off compared to years past. There doesn't seem to be any urgency. I know it is 3 games in but despite our record, the offense is historically bad, and coaches are not really acting like it is that big of a deal. At the same time if the future wasn't a complete unknown and Ron was comfortable with his job he would have sat Cam to start the season / IR'ed him last year to have the surgery earlier. None of this matters though if JR steps in.

Tinfoil hat maybe? I guess we just suck and the future is incredibly cloudy.

It really seems that way to me

i think with the apparent end of cam as a starting qb, it's hard to get excited for it.

there's probably 6-8 wins in there, just based on the front seven. but this doesn't bode well

I don't think that is the case He just clearly isn't healthy.

The Colts have their coach and GM in place and are not risking their franchise QB's health.

The Panthers entire future is up in the air and our coaches literally don't know how to win without Cam being Superman. If something isn't done to protect Cam from the coaches / himself, I am afraid you soon may be right.

Honestly, I think you might have nailed it. If our front office and coaching staff were secure in their positions I think there's a good chance that Cam wouldn't be playing right now.

Ironically, not allowing Cam to get fully healthy and forcing him to play handicapped all season may ultimately be all of their undoing.

I believe it is, sadly. ATL is winning the division again, and I fear we're heading right back to what we've always known: 7-9 & 8-8.

just make it to the playoffs. I don't care how bad we look doing so, even if we go 7-8-1 and sneak in, that's fine by me.

I know this team has the firepower and drive to turn it on whenever they so please. If they choose to half ass the regular season and get their head out of their ass come january, fug it. i'm on board

Panthers went 1-3 in 2013.

Went 12-4 the rest of the way.

Right now we're 2-1. A winning record. Could see us winning in NE if that says anything.

Yeah...

Our only hope is a wild card which is why I was actually ok with Atlanta beating Detroit yesterday.

Nothing worse than the dreaded 8-8 or 7-9... give me 0-16 or the SB no in between

No, this staff is safe.  They will use injury and poor execution an excuse. As long as everyone stands up for the NA and doesn't hurt anyone's feelings they are safe.

Not sure if there's ever been a more important game for this franchise this early in the season. I really think this coming game decides whether we rebound and get back on track and make a serious run or completely crash and burn.
