good point. make them citizens then

If you make them citizens, would that open the doors to making their parents and family citizens to?  I mean we got homeless folks on the street, we got poor people, we got an entire black population whose issues still haven't been addressed, yet the government shuts down over the children of illegal immigrants?  I'm not heartless, but we got our own problems.  We can't solve the world's problems, especially if we can't even solve our own.

When we are talking about Mexicans crossing the border, most of them come here to send money back home.  Their ultimate goal is to establish a middle class life back in their home, which is much cheaper to do by working here and sending the money back to family.  So they don't want to become Americans.  Matter of fact if they could, they would go back and forth, to and fro, if it were not for our border patrol.  So those who do get into the US, have to stay here for as long as they can, to get enough money to send home.  When that is accomplished, they don't mind being deported back to Mexico.  Within that period of staying here, their children become Americanized.  I feel bad for them, but if it comes to it, they just have to be deported back to their homeland.  We have to care for citizens that are here first, particularly black descendants of slaves.

The fact that this wall bullshit even exists within a realistic immigration discussion places a sobering perspective on just how dumb the average American citizen is.

Even more unreal is the fact that there are human beings with functioning brains who actually believe a lifelong swindler like Donald Trump represents their interests let alone even remotely cares about their existence.

are we talking about realistic immigration or illegal immigration? the wall is base bullsh!t and so is DACA.

So they should take the poison pill..... so that they can push for reparations down the line

the problem isn't that america doesn't "take care of its own" because it lacks the resources. the problem is that america doesn't "take care of it's own" because of ruling class interests and centuries of white supremacy. to direct fear and anger at immigrants is to align with a right wing that doesn't give a poo about you either way. we shouldn't sell out our brothers and sisters in struggle just because they live on the other side of this shitty country's shitty borders imo.

Trump promised that he would sign a bipartisan deal. Congress agreed on a bipartisan deal, and enough Dems agreed to vote for the bipartisan deal.

Then Trump and the GOP broke the deal and shut down the government because they couldn't make the taxpayers waste dozens of billions on a useless wall that they promised the taxpayers wouldn't have to pay for.

Not exactly true...close on part one but total crap on part two...per usual

it costs like $500 to apply for DACA plus either a yearly or bi-yearly renewal fee anyway.  there isn't some resource allocation problem as if there are untold billions of dollars being pumped into this program that could have gone to homeless or low income people or something.  the office that administers DACA is the USCIS and 99% of its budget comes from fees collected by people directly interfacing with it.  it costs taxpayers next to nothing.

DACA is being used by the wingnut right to stoke racial resentment.  don't fall for this bullshit.  the major business interests that drive immigration policy want illegal immigrants here, but they want them picking tomatoes and scrubbing toilets, not getting educated and commanding power in society.  oh yeah and spoilers they feel the same way about most people who aren't rich and white.

yeah they want it easy enough to get here and work for slave wages under the constant threat of deportation but hard enough that the bulk of the exploitable labor base outside of the country can't just pack up and move. it needs to be costly and time consuming to immigrate legally, favoring potential immigrants with money and a much lower sense of urgency. it needs to be dangerous to immigrate illegally so that those who do are subject to the whims of smugglers and the dangers of walking across the desert because those people are the ones most likely to accept work as slaves. framing this as "we need to take care of our own" only perpetuates that system. the goal should be to dismantle it imo

Not trying to derail. But why is it the only time you see hand wringing about the homeless in this country is when someone is using them as a prop to justify the dehumanization of someone else?

Like have we ever had a thread here where anyone is all " Oh wow, we really should do something about this"?

It seems like Matthias is shoehorning himself right in with those he is supposedly against.
