you can't rely on soy

You don't need to eat soy to be vegan.  Probably most of the guys in this thread talking about beans know that.

I eat about 90% plant based. I started about 8 years ago, after reading Eat to Live by Dr Joel Fuhrman.

Vegans don't get enough protein

That's not necessarily true. That's like saying meant eaters don't get enough vitamins and minerals. You can easily meet your bodies protein requirements on a vegan diet.

You seem like someone that is eating to much soy . Plant based diets suck . And I did it for a while . You need meat .

Why do you “need” meat? Need is a strong word.

I have totally changed my diet and started back excercising.  Down from 225 to 200.  I now think I am ready to try this plant based diet.  Probably want to get down around 185ish and maintain that.

@Jeremy Igo do you have any books or websites you can recommend?   Want to make sure I am not overlooking anything,  like if I need to take B12 supplements and things of that nature.

This is the best website I have found for recipes

Really the trick is just find 10 things to eat that you love.  Most people normally only eat 10 things anyways. Find those 10 things and it is so easy to do.

I went vegan for 6 months . You lose weight at first then you will start to gain. It's a terrible diet . Best diet is a balance of heathy fat , carbs  and protein .plant based meals is good but you can't rely on soy it's terrible for men

A lot of bad information here.

1. Its impossible to get fat on a whole food plant based diet. If you were getting fat as a vegan you were eating chips, using lots of oils like olive oil,  and drinking soda. None of these things are part of a plant based diet as they are all processed food.

2. Soy is good for men. Yes, it has plant estrogen. But those estrogen are about 10% as strong as human estrogen and they attach to the same receptors. The net result is an actual lowering of estrogen in your system. Someone tell Thomas Davis.

Soy intake does not raise or lower a man's testosterone levels. Derived from soybeans, soy is a high-protein substance found in many foods, such as edamame, tofu, soy flour, and soy milk. It can also be found in some supplements. ... Still, some men worry that consuming phytoestrogens may reduce their testosterone levels.

I was vegan for a long period of my life and never drank soy milk, ate tofu at limited amounts.  Soy is not bad for you but you also can live vegan without it being more of your diet then some normal asian cultures.

Another issue I had when I was a vegan was hunger . With low protein and no animal I was hungry . Don't get me wrong I made some good vegan food like rice paper bacon . I mainly did the diet because of my love for animals but I couldn't stick with it my body didn't react to it

vegan does not = low protein.   Perhaps if you ate real foods and not "rice paper bacon"  (that is not a food - rice paper is a wrap to put real food in not something to be a product with a bunch of flavorings that has no nutritional value) you would not have had that issue.

A dark leafy green is one of the healthiest things out there (natural grains also rock) heck even in spinach you get the protein of one egg in one cup of spinach.
