Songs you didn't know were covers until...

So my roommate and I were in the car the other day and a song came on that completely took him aback. Not because the song was great or horrible, but because he realized that one of his favorite songs was not an original (can't remember what it was because I thought it was terrible).

But has there ever been a time where you were a little surprised to hear an older version of a tune you always thought was original?

2 that came to the top of my head were

I Love Rock and Roll (originally by The Arrows, covered by Joan Jett)
and
China Girl (originally by Iggy Pop, covered by David Bowie)

Iggy and Bowie co-wrote that. Just an FYI if you didn't know....I've never heard Iggy's version.

Yeah, I read after i found out that Bowie released his own version to help out Iggy's financial troubles.
