Sorry, not taking the bait Sam.

It isn't bait though... lol...

There are good things in the Bible, but they are things that can be taught without presenting them with miracles that are absurd...

As a child, we all believed in Santa Claus with the amount of passion you now have towards Jesus... One day, that belief changed, and I hope, for the sake of mankind, that everyone will eventually wake up to reality yet again...

PSC, that was a fantastic post on Scripture. I couldn't agree with you more. I have great trouble reconciling vast parts of the Old Testament in light of the New Testament. And I have difficulties with some parts of the New Testament once I move outside of the Gospels (not all of it, certainly). And Matthew is many times the most uplifting and leads to the most introspection.

Yet, I'll keep trying to read it all. My father once told me that if it was easy to understand, you'd read the Bible once and toss it aside like a paperback mystery. One can't grasp it all in one sitting.

But hey, I can't stand and defend the whole of Christianity. I can just strive to learn and understand, live it as best I can and be thankful for the blessing. I can talk to you about it, I can quote scripture and verse, I can do any amount of good acts, but I can't, no matter how hard I try, believe in someone else's stead.

I'd say that with Christianity, you're, in the end, really on your own. But you aren't, are you?

The teachings of Jesus are a wonderful philosophy, and an excellent way to live your life. Much like the teachings of Thoreau, Emerson, Buddha, Confucius and the rest.

The Old Testament is a horrible, horrible way to tell your neighbors how to live theirs, and the spread of Christianity has killed millions of people.

It makes me sad, because it devalues the teachings.

Was Jesus the son of God?

fug if I know.

But the stuff in red is just honest, and very very difficult to live by. I can't do it. But I'd like to think reading it changed my outlook for the better.

I wish it were viewed more as a philosophy and less as a religion. Religion destroys lives. Philosophy teaches you how to live your own.

I don't necessarily put the teachings of Jesus over the teachings of the others. I think they pretty much had it all down pat.

And who is to say, that if Jesus was the son of God, that God hasn't also sent his son to other cultures, in other ways, to teach an enlighten them?

Who's to say he hasn't lived on earth a thousand times, under a thousand different names, each with their own purpose towards teaching humans a little patience and understanding?

Maybe all religions are fighting over the same son of god without realizing it, twisting the teachings and killing each other by the billions.

But now we're talking crazy poo.

What is one man's absurdity is common daily life to another.

And Sam, once upon a time, I was like you, but you didn't catch that from what I tried to politely say before. I wouldn't have dared to call you a child or misled or naive, although you have said so of me, without any knowledge of my years or my experiences.

You have the advantage of the assailant in this debate, and I am basically okay with that. I flailed at the walls when I was younger and was certain of my knowledge that this moment in time is all that there is. We all must cut our teeth or break them in the attempt.

Sorry, that was condescending, but done in kind.

So you don't wear clothing woven from two types of material?

:D

Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. 25Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.-Galatians 3

I didn't call you a child, misled, or naive... If you took that from what I posted, then you have a guilty conscience, it seems...

You still didn't admit that the things you are "certain" of are unprovable by anything but blind faith, and that alone does not one define...

I feel like, and I feel like most of the people I know would also say this about me, I have a great grasp on what it takes to be a good person and a great asset to this world... The difference between you and I is that it seems you are content with having something greater than yourself to save you from your bad decisions, while I don't need that entity... I am responsible for my own actions, and I know this with the certainty that the repurcussions of those actions will ultimately fall upon my shoulders alone...

You can't save someone else if you can't even save yourself...

Sam, I can't save anyone else. I couldn't save myself, there's only one person who could have done that.

I am glad that you feel you have arrived, full and in bloom in the greatness of being human. I wish you the best with that, being an asset and all. Hubris is a wonderful motivator.

The more we talk the more foolish we look to each other, perhaps it is best to walk away. I have no real desire to make you into a fool and have less of a desire to play one for you.
