The teachings of Jesus are a wonderful philosophy, and an excellent way to live your life. Much like the teachings of Thoreau, Emerson, Buddha, Confucius and the rest.
The Old Testament is a horrible, horrible way to tell your neighbors how to live theirs, and the spread of Christianity has killed millions of people.
It makes me sad, because it devalues the teachings.
Was Jesus the son of God?
fug if I know.
But the stuff in red is just honest, and very very difficult to live by. I can't do it. But I'd like to think reading it changed my outlook for the better.
I wish it were viewed more as a philosophy and less as a religion. Religion destroys lives. Philosophy teaches you how to live your own.
I don't necessarily put the teachings of Jesus over the teachings of the others. I think they pretty much had it all down pat.
And who is to say, that if Jesus was the son of God, that God hasn't also sent his son to other cultures, in other ways, to teach an enlighten them?
Who's to say he hasn't lived on earth a thousand times, under a thousand different names, each with their own purpose towards teaching humans a little patience and understanding?
Maybe all religions are fighting over the same son of god without realizing it, twisting the teachings and killing each other by the billions.
But now we're talking crazy poo.
