You know, I was going to post a thread about how jersey numbers are not just numbers on a back of a jersey, it can be a number that people associate with and make the player popular by.

For example, how many QBs do you see wearing the #7? Why is #7 so popular? Michael Vick? John Elway?

or what about #12? Seems like you see a few more players wearing #12 because of how popular Tom Brady has come.

But then there are numbers that most QBs avoid because is sacrificial... #4, for example, is one that every QB wants to be but realizes that there is only one QB that should wear that jersey... Brett Farve.

Its almost like Lebron James telling the NBA that they need to retire the #23 in honor of Michael Jordan

It just goes to show that a jersey number is not just a number for some players, it's an association.
