Another Bush destined to be President?

Recommended Posts

Bush senior was an excellent president. Best in the last 50 years. I think Jeb should have been president instead of George W, he is infinitely better qualified.

But no, Jeb will never be president.

GWB has ruined it for the rest of the Bush's, and the thing is, Jeb probably would be a good President. But I thought that one time about GWB.

He was a foreign policy master, and was more responsible for balancing the budget than Bubba.

Ooooooookay... but how does that make him the best of the past 50 years?

Inferior competition. :)

Perhaps I should have said 50 years though, since that gets into the Eisenhower administration. So I will go with last 48.

Kennedy- Wasn't around long enough

Lyndon Johnson- Vietnam

Nixon- Watergate

Ford- See Kennedy

Carter- Air of incompetence

Reagan- Did ok, but I think Bush senior was better. Ran up some big deficits.

Clinton- Same as Reagan

Bush II- Rivals Carter and Johnson for the bottom spot.

I'd say that's spot on.

I think it's funny how no matter what Bubba achieved, it was either due to Reagan or to Bush Sr... according to conservatives

Hey, I have him tied for second with Reagan. He got the wildcard spot. :)

FWIW, I think Clinton did a very good job in foreign affairs. He put a good team in place and made mostly good decisions. On the domestic side, he stumbled a bit at first, but did ok there as well. The balanced budget was in large part due to military drawdown and tax raises, which started under Bush I.

Bush Senior did a great job with Gulf War I and the Russians. I can't stand the way people second guessed him about Hussein, as his policies were right.

The way he called for Saddams overthrow by the Iraqi people, then refused to follow through with support leading to mass murder, was a tick short of evil IMHO.

I give credit to the success of the economy under Clinton to two things....

1. The Republican Congress that came in and slashed pork spending

2. Clinton himself, for adapting and realizing he had to get in to fit in

I cant think of any President in the last 50 years with the exception of Carter who has performed as poorly as the Bush clan. Both exited with the economy in shambles, both with record deficits, both with the country unsure of its direction. This job is about leadership, vision and direction. Its not an administrative position like a mature corporation. Father and son both missed the mark, but George W, he is a classic example of Peters Principal existing in politics.

I wondered in an old thread about Jeb and much moreso Jeb's son.

I think W ruined any chance for Jeb, but I wonder if his boy, given enough time and the inevitable pendulum swing back towards the ® might not give him a chance.

Don't underestimate his good looks and heritage.

The whole mixed heritage thing seems to work well! The question is simply if W poisoned the Bush well too much.
