That Damn Lil Wayne

Recommended Posts

Lil Wayne is overhyped. PERIOD. I have seen some value in some of his tracks. He obviously is clever and a great lyricist, but... I would NEVER put him up there with the greatest of all time. PAC will never be matched IMO. And I still don't understand how his album is nominated for so many awards, there obviously wasn't a lot to choose from. I hope for more rappers with substance to take over but the industry is so commercial now.

I was never big on T.I. either, but Paper Trail won me over because the album is actually talking about something instead of "i'm the self-proclaimed greatest" fillers he was putting out for the majority of his career.

Regardless, while Lil Wayne made a FEW valid points, his appearance on ESPN was purely gimmick. His reason for picking the Cards over us? He said because Fitzgerald's stats were better than Smitty's, as were Warner's over Delhomme's. He also said because he felt that Edge was gonna have a huge game against us and is a difference maker. I've always liked Edge, but NO. Not with that OL and our front seven. And stats are for people who don't watch the games.

Pac and Wayne shouldn't even be in the same sentence together.

I'll let you in on a little secret of why the quality of rap is disintegrating. <Dirty South>. T.I's the only one that really broke away from that and wrote songs that you understood and made you think. The rest of it is 99% party tunes that high school kids vote on to be prom song. Hey, the rich white kids love it because they usually like the same thing in unison, and if they like the beat that's all they need to like the song. They wouldn't be too keen on Pac because they don't understand the stories and issues he was talking about.

I call it "Mascot Rap", because usually, only one guy will be the hot artist of the month/year/whatever, he'll be a feature artist in EVERYONE's song (he'll have some bars on every track that plays), and he usually uses the same stupid trademark or gimmick everytime you see/hear him (i.e. Lil Jon's pimp cup, T-Pain's voice modifier)

 You my friend are CORRECT. Couldn't agree more... Imaginary rep for you!

Lil wayne is ok but he represents the phenomenon of hip hop becoming too successful for it's own good, it's been diverging from the path for a long time

I recently picked up Q-tips latest album, it was very refreshing

the southern gangsta rap really is becoming just a cancer on hip hop

Tech N9ne >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Weezy... The difference? Wayne is all about being commercial, and as such, any talent he had is gone...

Other than Tech N9ne, Nas, a few not-so-mainstream artists like Little Brother, sometimes Common, hip-hop/rap has been long dead... You can thank BET, MTV, and radio conglomerates for that....

Lil Wayne whos music i really like, very creative and a pretty smart guy, not your normal rapper idiot, Picked the cardinals this weekend he thinks warner is going to have a field day on us. He was on espns first and 10 this morning debating skip bailess. Skip of course picked us and ripped apart waynes theory. Man, you know what *** lil wayne!!!!!

Tell him to get on the field and see what happens... Ha Ha

we need more young talent in hip hop.. Lupe Fiasco.. Trife Da God.. anything other than what is out there now..

if a list of 'dance moves' is the hook on your song, you should be banned from HipHop-- period.

and the Dirty South is not what killed music.. Scarface, Outkast, Ludacris (before he sold out), Little Brother, Nappy Roots and a whole bunch of Southern Rappers have tons to say.. it is not MTV, BET or radio hosts.. it is the people who buy the sh*t.. if people keep eating up the dance moves, Shoulda Leans, Lean Wit It Rock Wit It and Soulja Boy's, then the Rich White guys in suits will keep funding the sh*t.. finding new talent (or lack thereof) to be signed for a year and then be put back out on the street..

Tech n9ne >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Any "rapper" out there..

I myself am more into hip-hop, which I refer to when music actually speaks on something, carries a message, indulges in the art of rhyme, etc.. Mos Def and Talib Kweli are some great ones.

I refer to rap when it's the typical commercial bullshit, a.k.a. club rappers,

There is some good stuff out there. Pac was always my favorite, and will always be. He put in so much work, those 13+ unreleased albums are sitll relevant to today's music. And sadly enough, is still being ripped off. Ja Rule tried to sound like him, DMX attempted to look and sound like him. And T.I. thinks he picked up where Pac left off... Where he says, "It's like Pac never died"

alright everyone, lets get of Pac's jock.. you bunch of BPJS..

IMHO-- Biggie trumps Pac.. but Nas is hip hop's GOAT..

Nas has survived all the transformations Hip Hop has gone through.. and still owns Jigga

I say that it's MTV and BET that dictate what is being bought.. If they played other stuff, that would become more accepted by the youth of today that follow trends...

That is what killed rap.. People looking to make a buck.. which in a way, was rappers killing themselves.. Tons of artists started selling out, and others coming into followed that trend.. Look at the empire that 50 Cent has created, and he is the biggest piece of garbage that ever stepped in front of a mic.. He rode Dre's beats, and Eminem's influence, and built his own empire that touts video games, movies, a clothing line, and vitamin water to name a few things...

When rap became a business is when it went down the drain, and you can thank the industry for that...

F.T.I.!!!!

Appreciate the compliment. :arf:

You have what ya enjoy hearing and that's why you like biggie, and what I want to hear is why I say Pac is the greatest. You can say one is better than the other, but you are comparing apples to oranges. Can't be done. Each were great in their own way...

I can say the industry has tried to remake pac over and over and over more so than anyone else.

Big L was great.

I have to say Tech N9ne is one of the nastiest out. Everready was a great album. The sh*t he comes up with is incredible. Not just in lyrics, but in flow...

"There comes a day in your life when you wanna kick back

Straw hat on the porch when you old perhaps

Wanna gather your thoughts, have a cold one

Brag, to your grandkids about how life is golden"

"Layin' lazy in the recliner, couple days

In my ashtray, smoke signals from the haze

I stick my finger through it, the ring of smoke broke

That symbolize weak guys, pop the strong link off

The infrastructure caves in, amazin'

I ain't have to read The Art of War to slay men"

"Pacino life, G a roll, casino dice

at the Mirage, Vegas strip, neon lights

Gamblers, puffin cigars, couples and stars

Flashin cameras, dealers, shufflin cards

Spent the weekend, already miss New York and it's odd

cause I'm the first to say it got too many hustlers who rob"

WHAT^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Nas-- the lyrical paintbrush..

I love rap.....and with that being said....Lil Wayne is god awful, overrated, and just plain bad for actual rap. Hes just horrible and I could continue to rip him apart but that would be pointless as he's still making all this money.

Secondly, why would you care what a man who can barely speak English has to say about football, when his grasp of the game is, "Wow, Reggie Bush is sick he can run fast."
