Samuel L. Jackson

Panthers to sign a Kicker pretty soon...

Great. But honestly, I wish we could find a guy that could do both b/c I'm tired of wasting a roster spot on a KOS, it kind of pisses me off.

What happened to that DII or DIII kid we were scouting recently? He sounded pretty capable of both kicking FGs and KOs. I love Kasay, but honestly I think he's starting to lose his touch on FGs and is getting up there in age. Being that we are cutting so many loyal ties this year, I wouldn't mind if he went ahead and retired before the season to make room for a capable new guy. I'm tired of 3 roster spots being taken up on gameday for kickers.

FWIW, I'm not sold on this guy making the final cut...

It could happen, but I wouldn't bank on it at this point...

So I guess we know how Baker's tryout at KO's went... LOL

Why aren't we looking at Punters that can be KOS as well? I really don't think Baker is exactly irreplaceable punter and he brings no added value. Bring in both if you ask me and let them all have at it.

Apparently he tried out for us on the 19th, and:

"Todd Carter averages 71 yards and 4.2 second hang time on 8 kickoffs during the tryout for Carolina Panthers."

Average is a yard deep? I'll take that.

But, if he's tried out for us...well, we all know how that ends.

LOL at Samuel L coincidentally finding a link less than 60 seconds after he posted his rumor. Pretending your Panther insider on a message board is a little sad.

No effing kick off specialists. I'm tired of spotting the other team an extra man because Kasay can't kick off anymore. If our punter can't handle kickoffs it's time for a new field goal kicker.

Indoors and no pass rush....I used to be able to do that. It's a whole different ball of wax when you have people trying to block the kick and wind in your face. There's no denying the kid's got a cannon, but he's not going to have time to play with his hair in the NFL.

That was probably just a video he made to get his name out there and give teams scouts something more to look at than game film. I'm sure he was kicking outdoors for the Panthers tryout.

He'll kick outdoors for sure, but I wonder if the team will make him kick more quickly? He has a long set up time. Things move more quickly in a game. Many strong-leg guys can hit 50 and 55 yard FGs given all the time in the world and no pass rush.

I hit 60 yards several times in practice with no pass rush off a tee holder, but even with a simulated rush in practice it cuts into your distance because you have to clear the linemen with their hands up; let alone in a game with a kick block on.

Not to mention the fact that it's actually held by a holder, who has very minimal time to get the ball from the snap down to the holding position. That can take A LOT out of a guy's accuracy. Trust me.
