He's so misunderstood!

who said anything about him being misunderstood? you compared him to OJ.. seems you're misunderstanding...

his assault on a law enforcement officer in college looks bad.. but this was 5+ years ago and I'm fairly sure we can all agree college students are idiots. what else is new..

someone got shot leaving a night club.. this is very unfortunate, however- he didn't shoot them, nor did he start the fight... really has nothing to do with him other than he was at the night club and it was his cousin got into an altercation earlier that night...

was reported he wouldn't let the taxi leave with his girl friend in it.. horrible, I know... the violence part is interesting to label in this case.. perhaps there are more details you missed.

DUI.. this is bad. hopefully this is his last.. if so, live and learn..

driving without license and proof of insurance.. this is worse than murder...

last one doesn't give detail, but was found not guilty...

----------

he needs to keep his poo together like he has been doing the last 2 years.. Let's hope he carries on. Every young player has maturing to do.. he isn't 1 of 5 players who are the only ones to ever f**k up due to immaturity early in their careers..

just saying man, 2 of them are of concern.. and neither have been within the last 2 years.. he has come out last year saying he needs to focus on being smarter off the field.. I hope he means it, so far so good...

with all of this laid out, I have to say, hopefully you can see why I would take a chance on him... he certainly doesn't deserve to be associated with OJ and Smitty certainly doesn't look like a saint.. so I completely disagree with you on that statement..

I feel strong on this one.. Marshall is out there. We need a #1. If we find out the FO never even considered this, or half-assed an attempt just to say they tried, they all can go to hell...

we have played this game for YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEARS... now the fact that we need a WR is under the microscope (mostly because Smitty is tired of carrying our team alone) and a pro bowl receiver who is YOUNG is out there..

sure, he wants paid. Any WR who is our #1 is going to want paid. Do it and let's win some football games..

Agreed. BM is young and has a lot of talent in him. If the panthers are willing to give up our 2nd round for this year and 2 for next. I think brandon is worth it.

all that, and I'd still love him on my team!

we still have two first round picks and while we still haven't addressed the O Line and hopefully do so with at least one of those picks, I still think a trade out of the other first round pick will happen. I still think he could end up in Seattle myself, and trouble or not, the guy is a beast on the field and any team gets better instantly with him there!

well, the draft is 2 weeks away.. they better get to work on getting rid of Marshall then..

after the fact, everything is up in the air.. and Marshall needs to fall somewhere in the Charlotte area..

being unhappy isn't really the point I'm getting across.. it's that we have the OPPORTUNITY to grab up a true #1 WR, this WR being one we WILL NOT find the same quality or even close anywhere this offseason or maybe next season or the season after because... Carolina doesn't go for big time FA? so then when will we get a strong #1? through the draft?... If Marshall isn't a logical choice, how in the world are you going to tell me the Panthers drafting a true #1 is a logical choice? It's been 5+ years.. certainly that "correct, logical thought" would have brought us something by now..

and I'm fairly sure we have the exact replica in Smitty as we have in Marshall concerning off the field issues (well, they are really on the field issues, just like Marshall)... there is no real difference between the 2 as far as "character" goes..

Really, Smitty has more knocks on him than Marshall.. so for BM not being "our kind of guy" is really not as big of a dispute as some would believe..

The guy wants paid.. seems harmless enough. Plenty of players in the NFL want paid. Pay the guy, at least he's not punching players in the locker room.. lol

I love Smitty.. I don't hold those incidents against him like others may and will do.. however, to tell me BM has character problems and JR isn't interested in "those players" doesn't add up to me.. To use that excuse is kind of talking out of both sides of the mouth..

This is primarily directed towards the FO since that is the foundation of what players will be brought in and which will not.. I realize you are just pointing out the opinion that since JR doesn't like a character issue guy, he wont' come in, so we shouldn't fret over it..

well, I'm fretting, because any excuse like he isn't our kind of guy is bullshit... he isn't TO, he isn't Smitty, he isn't Moss (minus somewhat quitting during TC)... pay the guy. you shouldn't have any issues.

and if he isn't gone by draft day.. a #1 in this draft is kind of out of question by 31 other teams in the NFL.. If the FO wants this guy, they'll find a way to get him..

sorry for rambling, it's late... and this issue is one I do take part in... we've only had 1 receiver for years.. it's annoying. here's a fuggin great chance to get a big time play maker. make it happen. off-field issues and excuses be damned.. Bolden is a good choice but Marshall isn't? They both created issues in the media over getting paid. this isn't anything new. Marshall, just like Bolden, has shown he will focus and play football regardless if he isn't happy. Regardless if he isn't #1 and has to work his way back into the roster..

the character issues are bullshit in my opinion... and he's young!

and I'm pretty sure this is the furthest from the truth...

That sure is a long winded excuse to talk yourself and others, that the team must do whatever it takes to get marshall.
To compare marshall to smith is laughable. Smith is a great team player, and has already done more for the community than marshall ever will. As far as trouble, smith has anger issues...and he was drafted a panther. This part of the conversation is over.

In case you don't listen to the media, the broncos will accept nothing less than a first round pick for him. They don't even have to get ride of him.

There are receivers in the draft. No, they won't have the same impact that marshall would.
Oh well.

I understand you will be upset when we don't get marshall....I know you will blame the front officw....I just hope some day, you and others, will come back to earth.

If we could get BM for our 2nd rounder, we'd be fools not to do it. The odds whoever we draft in 2nd round is anywhere close to as good as BM already is, are slim.

According to Orlando-Orange County public records (case 48-2004-MM-012392-O), on Halloween 2004, while a student at UCF, Marshall was arrested in Orlando on charges of assault on a law enforcement officer, refusal to obey, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer.[54]

On January 1, 2007, Marshall was present at "The Shelter," a nightclub in Denver, Colorado, along with teammates Javon Walker and Darrent Williams. The trio was attending a birthday party held for and by Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin. As the players were leaving the club in a limousine, Williams was fatally shot in the neck after an unknown assailant opened fire on the vehicle. Willie Clark was later charged with the murder.[55] Walker has stated in interviews that the shooter was likely a nightclub patron whose motive was retaliation after being involved in an altercation with Marshall's cousin earlier that night.[56]

On March 26, 2007, Marshall was arrested in the Highlands Ranch suburb of Denver on suspicion of domestic violence after his girlfriend reported that following a domestic dispute, Marshall prevented a taxi she was in from leaving his house.[57] Charges from the incident were later dismissed on May 25, 2007, after Marshall completed anger management counseling.[58]

In the early morning of October 22, 2007, Marshall was arrested in the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area at the intersection of 14th and Blake St. for driving under the influence of alcohol.[59] A trial was scheduled for September 16, but Marshall instead agreed to a plea bargain four days earlier; he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving while ability impaired.[60] He was sentenced to one-year probation and 24 hours of community service.

On June 12, 2008, Marshall was ticketed for an illegal lane change, then found to be without his license and proof of insurance.[61] The case was eventually dropped as part of a plea bargain for the October 22, 2007 driving incident involving alcohol.[60]

According to an article published in the Rocky Mountain News on July 28, 2008, Douglas County deputies fielded "about 11" calls to Marshall's home since January 2006. The article stated that one call resulted in Marshall being arrested (the March 26, 2007 domestic dispute), and some did not involve him at all.[62]

A September 17, 2008 article on CompleteColorado.com stated that the solicitor's office in Fulton County, Georgia filed misdemeanor battery charges on September 10 for an alleged incident on March 4, 2008, in Atlanta, Georgia. Marshall was booked on March 6, then released the next day after posting a $1,000 cash bond.[63] The case was assigned to Judge John Mather in Georgia state court.[64] On August 14, 2009, a jury in Atlanta found Marshall not guilty.[65]

On March 1, 2009, Marshall was arrested in Atlanta for disorderly conduct after allegedly being involved in a fight with his fiancee, Michi Nogami-Campbell. Marshall was released on a $300 bond.[66] The charges were dropped the following day.[67]

There are not enough balls in our offense to pick up Marshall. We probably average about 20-25 pass attempts a game, and Moore is likely to complete about 15 or so. That's just not enough passes to satisfy two legitimate #1's, along with what the TE's and RB's will also get. And forget what Smitty says about not wanting to be a #1 (of course also he did say eventually), the fact is that we all know him and his competative nature well enough to realize that he will not be a happy camper if he becomes relegated to only a handful of targets each game. And don't for a second think Marshall is going to agree to go somewhere that he will not be the #1 option.

So while a Smitty/Marshall pairing sounds great in theory, the reality is that we do not need someone of his caliber in our run-first offense. We only need someone that can take a little pressure off Smitty. Marshall would be overkill.

Oh, and dismissing all the the issues Marshall has had as no big deal could be devastating to this team. Usually, what you hear is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to pro atheletes (listen to any ex-athlete and you will hear that very clearly). The bottom line is, are you willing to risk the future of this franchise on the hope that down deep Marshall is a good guy and solid team player whose just been misunderstood?

And remember, you don't pay the cost of trading for someone like Marshall for a one year rental, you do it only if you are prepared to give him a long-term contract at mega-million bucks. And if we did that, would we still be able to lock up all of the current core players whose contracts are up withing the next year. In other words, are you willing to sacrifice Beason, Davis, DeAngelo, or Kalil, etc. to pick up Marshall? I wouldn't, and I'm willing to bet the Panthers wouldn't either.

1. why dont we let the rbs run and let our wr catch!
2. why do we have to settle for less at wr. we have 2 1st round running backs that could both start. THAT is a luxury.
3. Even w/o marshall, there is no guarantee that we lock up our young "core" anyway. we will lose some of those guys. dont think they are going to give a hometown discount, not as young and talented as they are.

I am not sure the 20-25 attempts a game has got to be the case this year. Attempts per game are a function of what is working as well as how well we are extending drives and moving the ball on offense. Last year we ran first and only threw if we had to in order to keep drives going. If we couldn't run the ball like against Minnesota we would throw it like we did last year when Moore attempted 33 passes completing 21. The question is would we pass more if we had a better passing attack or would we continue to pass only out of necessity. Seems to be a circular argument. I would argue that if we had a better passing game we would throw more which would help the run game just like the run game has helped the pass game in the past.

Smitty does charity work. So Smitty is a team player.

Marshall put aside his differences with the coach and went to work this year. He is not a team player.

Smitty punched a player in the face in '08... he is a team player.

Marshall's only on the field issue (team related) is wanting to get paid. Like Bolden, he put his differences aside for the team. He is not a team player.

Smitty was drafted by us, so JR finds him to be "our kind of guy".. yet he has punched 2 team mates on the field. he is a team guy.

Marshall pointed out he has to smarten up off the field.. no trouble in the last 2 years.. Compared to Smitty though, he's not our guy... (Smitty got in trouble how recently ago?)

This part of the conversation is now over.. I'm not following you all too well I guess, PC...

we haven't drafted a WR in Fox's entire tenure.. So what is laughable, Pantherclaw, is your next statement...

There are receivers in the draft. No, they won't have the same impact that marshall would.

oh well? oh well? seriously man? oh well, who gives a poo if we win or lose... I'm sorry my head is in the clouds while I do not expect Hurney/Fox to pick up a true #1 WR in the next few years..

and I'm the one with my head in the clouds...

:nono:

-------------

as for the 1st they require.. well not much talk is going on. We can wait 2 weeks and then be right back in the game.. let's pray that happens.

while we're waiting, we can be proactive and see what kind of deal the Bronco's are willing to work out...

as for your point about they don't have to get rid of him.. well, they have made it clear they want to get rid of him and vice versa.. so.. pardon me while I hang my hat elsewhere on that tidbit.

--------------

edit: oh, and yes I'm using excuses.. how that is relevant is beyond me. I have plenty of excuses why this makes sense.. I'm sorry excuses are taboo for you.. lol

Not to mention that if Marshall was here, you get the best possible curve for grading the maturation and skillset of Matt Moore. I mean, if you have Double Trouble, our O-Line and Smith and Marshall, you know if you're not getting it done through the air it's on the QB. Saves us the trouble of going through the "Jake Delhomme Effect" argument again in three years of wondering if it's Moore or the fact that he has only one option to throw to. JMO.
