I think this would be a good move. He is very knowledgable and is very good on television. I think he would be a natural.

Who cares?
SG SHOULD be an insignificant position, as those of us on the actual frontline of delivery of care shouldn't need some goof in a pretend uniform telling us about public health and the education of our community. Not if we are doing our job right anyway.
It is stupid.

But will he wear the Captain Steubing uniform?WASHINGTON President-elect Barack Obama has approached CNN's chief medical correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, about becoming the country's next surgeon general, the cable network said Tuesday.

He is a Reporter for heavens sake....
he's an md with a phd in neurosurgery. he's more than qualified.
during the bridge collapse at the atlanta botanical garden two weeks ago, for example, he was called into perform emergency surgery.

The surgeon general seems to be primarily a communicator and health advocate, and at least Gupta is not as creepy looking as Koop or that woman they had a while back....
Joycelyn Elders.
Total loon.
Gupta is most certainly qualified, but I stand by my statement that the position is silly.
